Default Your Opinion on the Wii

While some of you are highly anticipating Nintendo's next 8th generation console, the Wii U, what did you think of it's predecessor? The Wii has been Nintendo's best selling console of all time and the best selling console of the 7th generation of video game home entertainment.

- Was the Wii an overall worthwhile console to you?

- Were you satisfied with it's life-long library? Or were you disappointed?

- How often did you play on it? Daily? Every other day?
Or was it in your closet collecting dust most of the time?

- Is it your favorite Nintendo console?

- Your thoughts on the online quality.

- Did you like Nintendo's ideas on the console?

The reason for this is because people's opinions on the Wii always seem very "scattered" from all the gaming sites I read from. I want to see how the 3DS Forums community would respond on this particular subject who have actually owned the Wii.

Yes. Having never owned a Gamecube, the Wii was of a great value because I was able to play the Gamecube games that I missed plus the new games that came out.

- Were you satisfied with it's life-long library? Or were you disappointed?
I thought it had an decent library despite the lack of third-party support. It had a certain "niche" appeal and I'm a part of that niche.

- How often did you play on it? Daily? Every other day? Or was it in your closet collecting dust most of the time.
I never shoved my Wii in a closet, but I can't say I played it every day or even every other day. I'm not that "hardcore" of a gamer and sometimes I'll go for months without gaming because I have other interests that I indulge in. I also spent a lot of time on my DS/3DS so that cut into the time I had to spend with my Wii.

- Is it your favorite Nintendo console?
I've only owned two Nintendo consoles- the N64 and the Wii. I find the Wii to be far superior.

- Your thoughts on the online quality.
I don't care about online much but the Wii Shop left much to be desired.

- Did you like Nintendo's ideas on the console?
Yes. The fact that "hardcore" gamers hate it fills my heart with glee.

"Was the Wii an overall worthwhile console to you?"

Incredibly worthwhile. The most exciting console I've owned since the SNES. I still remember the announcements and the revealing of the controller. I don't know if that can ever be replicated.

Were you satisfied with it's life-long library? Or were you disappointed?

I was satisfied with the retro games and all the multiplayer stuff. Can't be disappointed with a new Super Mario Bros. game and a new Donkey Kong Country. However, Nintendo should have released more motion controlled games with some real substance to them. Mini game collections are fun, but what about an action game with real content? We needed that.

How often did you play on it? Daily? Every other day?

I play it anywhere from every day to every 3 days or so.

Is it your favorite Nintendo console?

No. It ranks behind the NES and SNES because Nintendo did not support it as well and neither did third parties. Rotten bastards (third parties).

Your thoughts on the online quality.

The connection is generally fine. I don't care about being able to talk to random people, and I don't want to hear 12 year olds cursing me out, so I'm fine with it.

Did you like Nintendo's ideas on the console?

I LOVE Nintendo's ideas. I just wished they would have pushed motion controlled games harder instead of abandoning that concept for vanity games like Metroid: Maternal Instincts.

The gamecube, in my opinion, was the best frigging console ever made for its time. It made me fall in love with nintendo head over heals. Maybe my expectations were too high, but besides a few gems, the wii just felt behind in almost every way to my PS3. I am hopeful for the Wii U. It has decent specs, a controller that is quite the catch and hopefully improved online. If the games can come through then I will be happy. Regarding the Wii, I had some great times on it and built a lot of memories, but it just doesn't stand near my sweet G-CUBE.

I loved it. I just wish the 3rd parties were behind it because it had everything else

Yeah. I bought it on sale for one game (obviously played more than that). Sank 100 hours into that one game so no complaints.

It's good enough to not be disappointing.

Whenever I get something for it that I want to play. Xenoblade is next on the list but I won't be buying that for until summer.

I'm not a fan of online multiplayer so it never bothered me.

No. There's a place for motion controls but forcing long time fans to play their beloved franchises with a control scheme that some obviously don't like (myself included) isn't something that should be encouraged. Alternative control schemes was the route they should have taken.

Better than people give it credit for, actually. It's among Nintendo's best first party offerings on a console (probably only behind SNES,) but really the lack of notable 3rd party releases sets it back a lot.

also it's probably better than the gamecube
