Well, you click on a thread, read what the thread is about, then post what you think about the subject. If you get a certain number of posts, certain things will be unlocked. (chatbox, etc.)

Now let's answer your question. This site consists of many forums. In each forum people can talk for different stuff. E.g in Introduce Yourself new members tell other poeple a little about themselves, in The Lounge we talk about any topic and so on. Under each forum are several user created threads. In those threads people actually talk by posting their opinions on the subject the creator of the thread talks about in the first post.
