Since no one has said anything about the music. All you have to do is take the SD card out of the side of the 3DS and connect it to a computer. A lot of computers have media card slots, if yours does then you can just insert it in the slot, otherwise you might have to buy a USB SD card adapter if you don't have another way to connect it, like using an MP3 player that has a SD card slot. But, once you connect it to your computer just copy the music files onto the SD card and put the SD card back into your 3DS.

For the record, my mom would have never joined an online forum to help me with a video game system when I was a kid, so your a pretty cool mom.
