Just notcied this on IGN's homepage...
Says nintendo to announce new console between now and E3
supposedly will be HD, and be able to produce graphics around the level of the ps3.

So what do you guys think?

I don't want it to be backwards compatible, that means they'll spend time and money on that instead of just going strong for new, powerful components.

If it's equal to or weaker than PS3, I'll seriously facepalm.

I'm sceptical for now. Until I see better evidence, I'm not getting my hopes up.
Nintendo has hardly done anything with Wii Motion Plus, so unless that was just an experiment for the Nintendo HD, I doubt that they will announce it for another year or two. Not this soon after the 3DS anyway.

Lol. Nintendo has ALWAYS tested out random peripherals and then done just about nothing with them, so that's not a surprise. But ya, I still feel like they would have tried to make this cycle last longer than the usual 5 years. I thought they would've tried for 6 or 7, but maybe not.

Also, if this new console is supposed to make a jump to be on par with, or greater than the PS3/360, then how much farther are the PS4/720 going to be compared to this new nintendo console? I don't think the gap will be as big as the Wii vs. PS3/360, but I'm sure it'll be a significant difference.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is "allowed" to have older tech. They're awesome, don't get me wrong, but think about it. PS3/360 (and Wii's motion controls) made a jump forward to something that was more advanced at the time. I don't really like the fact that (so far) this new console is being broadcasted as somewhere around a PS3. What about going a little further than what's already available? Then again maybe I'm being a fool, and that whatever new way they have to interact with games will far surpass a bigger leap in processing/graphics power .

Personally, at one point I thought that maybe the Wii Vitality Sensor would be incorporated into the new console, something similar to Kinect, but it would be more responsive and advanced. Like you would actually be able to grab things in the game world through the real world, idk. The best way I can describe what I'm thinking is Kinect with a Power Glove.

I am reading these news VEEERY skeptically, because Nintendo has mentioned several times the Wii will be around for quite a while, and they are not done with it. If Nintendo gives up on innovation and moves to the "red ocean market strategy" of forcing up HD and pleasing third-parties, then it's OVER. Sean Malstrom will be right, the gaming world will be doomned.

"Around the level of the PS3"? <_< they should be the same! If not better..

Noooooo, PS3 graphics isn't good enough for the next generation they need to make it on par or hopefully better than the Xbox 720 and Playstation 4. Anyways this would take away attention from the 3DS and lower sales and their already bad enough. I expect E3 2013 announcement and 2014 release.

Now it's saying "Our sources have said the the console is significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and that Nintendo's intent is to recapture the hardcore market. Another source said it is capable of 1080p resolutions. "
