Question [Hey guys I need some advice!]

I am currently in community college and plan on transferring to U of H or some other university. Right now I am a music major, but I don't really feel it. I am on my third semester which means I only need one more semester to be able to transfer. Part of me wants to keep going with the music, but another part of me really really really wants to change my major. I'm not really that good at the music portion of majoring in music. I understand the theory parts, but when it comes to playing and singing I'm not really as good as everyone else. I have one F on my transcript already and will probably have another by the end of the semester. Is that really bad????
The major I want to change to is English with a minor in either journalism or creative writing. My English professors have told me that I have a lot of potential for getting works published. <this is my ultimate dream above everything else> I've been working on a project for almost two years now and will probably finish in the next year(a novel)

don't take this post as a sample of writing or skill because I typed this without caring and it most likely has a lot of grammatical errors
I just had to get this out here and ask you guys for some help

what should I do?

I really need help deciding what to do...

Well, it depends what kind of music is marketable these days. If your type of music isn't marketable, go with an English Major.

If you have serious doubts about your major, you should probably change it. Not sure what you plan on doing with a major in Music, though. Not really sure what you can do with a major in English unless you want to teach and write academic papers. If you want to write creatively and have those works published, education isn't necessary, artistic talent is. You can get some of your work published now. I used to enter contests and stuff. The money wasn't much but eh. It was fun all the same.

Do what you love, which appears to be writing. I'm in the same boat too-- I go to art school but recently found out from a prof that I'm an amazing writer.
Looking on the practical side of things, English also seems to be the better choice. There's always things to be written and a far broader range of opportunities than being in the music business.

The thing is I'm afraid of making a mistake. Like what If I want to go back to music? It will be too late by then. I know I can still play music and write music if I ever had spare time...idk I also have a lot of friends in the music department and they will be disappointed in me as well as my family.

Is there any way you can do a major/minor?
(no music puns intended)

Lol no not really. Majoring in music is pretty much a full time job in itself. I think I'm just going to take a chance and follow what my insides are telling me. I just hope it isn't going to blow up in my face.

Well, I don't really think it could backfire all that badly. You're staying in school, for one. It's not like you're dropping out and working at McDonald's until you die. I'd also be bummed if you spent all that money and time getting a degree that you didn't want.

Yeah you're right!! Thanks peach and everyone that helped. I think I've made up my mind to go with English and pursue a writing career tooth and nail. Thanks.

Of course, don't just take what I say. You should still really talk about it with a guidance counselor before making a solid decision, but I think you're making the right first decisions! :>
