| For a while now,my desktop won't get past this screen The loading bar will still move but other than that, nothing happens.Sometimes if I'm lucky I'll even get to the log in screen, from then on though it will run rather slowly.I'm using vista 32 bit. I've asked different people what they think the problem could be and they all suggested it was vista causing the problem since it's known to be a memory hog. What other advice can you give me?If any. Thanks in advance. |

Unplug it, restart it. Those are the only things I can think of to do.

Possibly faulty hardware. Have you tried reinstalling the OS?

| Yep.I've reinstalled the OS a few times before but it was only a temporary fix.Within a few weeks,It started to act up again.Exactly as I described above.

Probably a hardware issue then, is it an old PC?

Not really, bought it about 2 years ago or so.Warranty is already expired so that's out the window. You don't think it could be the OS itself?I'm no wizard but I've heard that vista is rather unstable.

start up in safe mode, f8 at boot up i think, not sure as i use mac, watch was is loading during startup in safe mode and see what module its hanging on, also try pressing enter, repeadiatly, or any random key for that matter. hope this helps, i have not used windows since, well, to long to remember. oh yeah, check your MUP.SYS file, maybe overwrite it with the one on your install disk. try to find your answer here: http://www.aitechsolutions.net/mup-sys-resolved.html Last edited by m00se; 11-25-2011 at 03:37 AM. |

put in the windows cd and select recovery mode or whatever they call it. Try letting windows fix itself because it looks like the windows installation is BROKE, unless the programs you used to scan it aren't trustworthy, I dunno. |

Perhaps you're loading something on to your system that's causing this issue. Or maybe there's a hardware issue that's corrupting files. Maybe there's a virus/malware on there that isn't disappearing on the OS reload (there have been some nasty little buggers lately doing that). Or perhaps it's simply a driver that's updating and that's when the issue pops up. That's a lot to consider. Whatever the case may be, though, I wouldn't buy into the "maybe it's just Vista" theory. I've been running Vista for years with nary a problem and I assume you were too until this issue of yours began. Yes, Vista can be a memory hog and it does have its issues, but it's not going to just repeatedly break down after three weeks unless there's something that it doesn't like, such as bad/incompatible software or hardware. |

Same thing happened to my old XP computer. I Got it fixed by getting it re formatted.
