I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for headphones. The type you can use on the DS and 3DS. I don't really trust myself to pick any the last one I bought ended up messing with the mic functionality of my DSi mic.

as far as earbuds go, in my opinion the best you can do are the ones for ipods/iphones. but for over-the-ear phones or regulars whatever you wanna call them, i'm not too sure. I hear that Skull Candy headphones are good, but haven't tried them. And i know that Beats by Dr. Dre are really good, but they're too expensive unless your serious about audio fidelity. But given the sound quality coming out of the DS/3DS it would be serious over kill, like hunting quail with a bazooka.

Well, the 3DS only has a 3,5mm headphone input, so you can't disturb any mic input. Pretty much any headphones will fit, if you get a pair with a 6.5mm plug you can get an adapter.
So yeah just buy any pair you'd like. Bigger proper headphones sound better than earplugs but they are... yeah, big. Your choice.

I'm using iphone4 headphones in all honesty the 3ds sound quality through headphones are **** it sounds really low like you have to concentrate to hear the game if your in public

That's not the sound quality being ****, that's the maximum volume being very low, sadly. This is to prevent hearing impairment, though.
As for sound quality, the 3DS is pretty damn good. More than good enough for mp3's to be fully enjoyable.

I use Skullcandy Lowriders. I've used in-ear buds for years but switched back to headphones because earbuds were beginning to pain me. Skullcandy can get to be pretty expensive but they're very good quality and well worth the investment.

Sony MDR-E10LP Headphones

For 10 dollars, this is a great deal with powerful clear sound! I've used them for about a year until I lost them... They've also received good reviews over the internet also. Comes in a rainbow of colors. I love em. Cheap, yet good quality.
