Default Breaking News: Steve Jobs Resigns

Gizmodo has a few more details. They're scarce right now though.

This probably means Steve Jobs' personal health is not doing well. Should be interesting to see what happens next.

^ Darn you, I was just about to post this.

I'm worried (about both Steve and the company.) We'll just have to see how Apple can handle this. Let's hope they can keep up the pace that Steve set.

I'm also worried about how his resignation will affect Apple. It's a sad day for geeks.

Not for this geek. With Jobs gone, there's a chance iOS devices might be able to move beyond the limitations Jobs was crippling them with. That's kind of a long term dream though.

On the local news here, it was reported that he is battling cancer, and I think they might have said he had a liver transplant too.

It is sad that he is sick, but we will have to wait and see what happens with Apple.

That's been going on for years.

The resignation letter was just posted.
Quote:
cupertino, calif.—(business wire)— to the apple board of directors and the apple community:

I have always said if there ever came a day when i could no longer meet my duties and expectations as apple's ceo, i would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as ceo of apple. I would like to serve, if the board sees fit, as chairman of the board, director and apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, i strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name tim cook as ceo of apple.

I believe apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And i look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at apple, and i thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve
