Default Chrono Trigger will be out on Virtual Console

Aren't you glad I'm here? You wouldn't get this from any other guy.

So anyway, since you're already here, you should know that Chronotrigger is coming out on Virtual Console. Anyone buying it? If not, why the hell not? You should definitely buy it. It's an absolute gem of the 16-bit era. I guess what I'm saying is, if you don't buy Chronotrigger, you're worse than Hitler. And Stalin. Combined.

For those of you that will buy it, have you played it before? If so, who are your favorite characters? And do you want a proper sequel (Chrono Cross doesn't count) or should the game stay safely in nostalgia land?

I've already bought it 3 times for 3 different platforms. I guess a fourth time couldn't hurt.

Frog is my favorite character. A sequel would be nice, but I'm a bit concerned by the quality of SE's newest original RPGs.

That's my main concern. I'm not sure I trust anyone at Square-Enix right now. I suppose if they hired back some of the original talent I might be convinced. What about you?

If that were to happen then I would definitely have more faith that a worthy sequel could be pulled off. The recent re-releases indicate to me that SE hasn't forgotten about the franchise, so I don't think a sequel is that long of a shot. I just want it to be good, if its going to happen.

Damnit, although Chrono Trigger is still an excellent substitute. Perhaps all these re-releases of it in recent years is a way of testing the water for the whole series, seeing if there's still some demand left for it

By Virtual Console, do you mean for the Wii or 3DS? :S

Everyone should go buy the DS version instead.
The extra ten bucks or something is worth it for the portability and better translation.

And as for a sequel, I'd rather leave the series alone. The game had very nice closure and every characters personal story arc was completed, so there's really no necessity to expand on it. Cross also did it the liberty of making the plot a mess, introduced dozens of tangential characters mucking up the games universe and sent the game towards a much more melodramatic direction I'd rather not see the franchise take.

I honestly don't trust any modern JRPGs anyway. They peaked at around the time Chrono Trigger was released, so I have a strong feeling that any sequel would be a disappointment.
