Default Could iOS actually help console gaming?

The Escapist : Video Galleries : Extra Credits : Ludus Florentis

I saw this video, and it got me thinking.
One point he mentions is different platforms that cost much less to enter. iOS and Android are not very costly to get into and don't cost nearly as much to develop for.

So, this could be something that could end up helping console games. Why?
A lower costs means less risk and that means more room to experiment.

As a developer learns what the audiences like and learn how to develop some decent games. They can move their way up to the more costly platforms to develop for. So by the time they would reach development for a home console, they have more experience under their belt and have ideas on how to make great games.

Just a theory I had when I saw this video, what do you think?

It does hold some water about it being a brand new ground for Developers to start off in, but too many of the big iOS developers openly hate console and then they port their handheld game with no changes to consoles.
Also, what happens if they decide to never move to consoles? that would more then likely hurt innovation in the console gaming field

Apple charge 300 USD per year for an enterprise (99 per year for individuals), plus you need to buy an ipad or the target device.
Nintendo charge something like 10,000 for a 3DS devkit.

It's cheaper, sure.

True there is that. But then there is also the game makers with good ideas that need somewhere to start and can't afford to start on a console. There are those people like the developers of Angry Birds that copy a flash game and get a big head when they make tons of money on it.

and that's what made me thing it was beneficial for a person to start developing on iOS or Android. Less of a risk and they can have a chance at earning a lot of money.

True, but if they can't start on console, why don't they use PC? Notch has been Raking in money using a public, free to use engine.

Yeah, and the PC gamers love indie games. Compare sales of Super Meatboy on Pc to those of Cosoles, despite the PC version having bad controls

the average ios game sells for about ninety cents and moves 3000 copies - after apple takes theri 10% that leaves $2430 to the game maker - woot woot

yeah thats great for conosle gaming - is this where i make a snide remark about somones brains?

or should we praise the console games that are neutered and left without any decent control and thrown into the ios dumpster two years after theri console release? thats just as good for the game industy as all the dead cattle that end up in the rendering truck is good for the beef industry....
