Default is cursive writing important to learn?

Many schools have stopped teaching cursive writing altogether. I feel it is important to learn cursive, and it really isn't that hard to learn. It's faster when done right, and for me, my writing is more legible in cursive. Also I find it important to learn because many of the U.S.'s important documents are written in cursive.

I don't really think so. Cursive handwriting looks nice sometimes, but I don't think it's all that important. Writing is losing ground to typing, so fast writing is not necessary anymore, I think. My cursive handwriting isn't legible, so I don't use it.

I can't read my own cursive, so I don't think it's really necessary, and, as Jasper said, typing is becoming all the more prevalent these days.

But I loved those cursive packets in third grade, for some reason.

Not really. I don't think much emphasis should be placed on it. It should be an optional part of the school curriculum.

Sidenote: I write in print but I noticed that a lot of my words have "traces of cursive" in them.

Apparently cursive so important here (from what I've been taught in primary school, I'm not sure about other primary schools in the UK) that they teach students to adopt cursive instead of writing in print. I also remember an incident where a classmate's parents had an appointment with the teacher due to him still writing in print, despite several attempts to have him write in cursive.

It's really pretty pointless. Cursive is pretty, yes, but more often than not it's illegible and it sucks. I mean, I guess some old-timey and important documents were written in cursive. But they exist in text now, so there's really no bloody point.

The only time I ever need to write in cursive outside of when I was in grade school is when I need to write my signature. Other than that, print is generally more legible and pretty awesome. There's pretty much no conceivable reason why cursive is a required part of grade school curriculum.

Yes it is useful, because when you are older and have to put a signature down. it's very rude to use regular print for a signature and sometimes if it's not in cursive like lets say job interview forms and such, then you may have no chance at getting the job because it's not a proper signature in cursive.

I love cursive writing and I think you all should shut up and leave cursive writing alone.
