| Nintendo has been shunned for re-releasing old products for the sake of them being in 3D, however the #1 Movie in the country right now is a re-release of The Lion King which is easily at least 15 years old, but its in 3D now!(with glasses of course). I ask you to debate if 3D isn't "catching on" as they say, why the hell did this movie make soo much money? |

... Because any reason to rewatch the Lion King in theatres is a good one?Anyway, yeah, 3D in theatres is pretty popular, but 3D is still struggling to find a way into peoples homes. Most likely the only 3D device you'll have is the 3DS. I mean, have you seen the price of 3D tvs? Not including the glasses?Anyway, yeah, 3D is growing in popularity, but we still have some time to go before we see 3D becoming commonplace in homes.

No it's not, in my opinion. The Lion King 3D is popular because The Lion King is just an epic movie. 3D or not.

I think eventually it will be standard as an option, but I think a large portion of the population won't be interested. Personally, I love it. I prefer NVIDIA's 3D kit to anything right now ( for PC ), it is absolutely sick, and it supports almost all PC games now days. 3D from a hardware stand point isn't even at its best. PS3 or any 3D through HDMI for example can only do 1080p @ 24 fps. To achieve 60 FPS it must be at 720p, as HDMI doesn't have the bandwidth to support more than that. The nice thing about the NVIDIA kit is that it uses dual link DVI. Dual link dvi can do 1080p at over 60 fps, so games not only look good, but they run smoother. For movies at the current time HDMI limiting FPS isn't a big deal since movies are recorded at 24 fps anyway. Avatar 2 may change that though, they plan on filming at much higher frames than 24, and I welcome it since it will look much more smooth, especially if the 3D technology is pretty much splitting the frames in half. I really like the 3DS 3D, but the viewing angle is a little too small for my taste. I still use it 100% of the time but it can be a pain.

There's a Lion King 3D video for 3DS?

The Lion King was the highest grossing animated movie of all time until Finding Nemo came out. Re-releasing the Lion King in 3D just makes it easy for parents that grew up when Lion King originally released, to show THEIR kids Lion King. Its really got nothing to do with the 3D IMO. 3D is NEVER going to catch on in a mass market way. At least not until its cheap and glasses-free. |

actually, 3d in movies is declining. there was an article I read, they had some data that said that the 3d movie audience is decreasing rapidly, which might mean people are ALREADY tired of 3d, and that could include 3d games/ phones.
