| When Nintendo put their mind to it, they can create the best adventures in the world. Just think of the Zelda lore, with all the epic stories happening in the Hyrule universe. Or –my personal favorite- the stunning Metroid Prime (the only really story/exploration-driven Metroid game in the series where you slowly unravel the mysteries of the Chozo civilization). Maybe I’m not the average gamer, but for me a compelling, coherent story with interesting plot twists and believable characters adds so much to the game that it can hold my attention for a very long time and motivates me to finish the game. Some excellent examples are “Enslaved: Journey to the West”, the “Prince of Persia” game with Prince and Elika and especially both “Uncharted” games where the stories and sense of humor made me really care for the characters (and their history) and kept me curious for what would happen next. I think it’s this sort of games I’m missing most on Nintendos platforms. Ofcourse we have Zelda, but I just know that if they would try a little bit harder (and grow some balls) they could come up with something new and fresh that would sweep us off our feet and turn the gaming world upside down again. Come on Ninty, you can do it. You can be great again if you put that creativity to work and stop doing safe-but-boring things all time. Last edited by Buramu; 06-15-2011 at 11:50 AM. |

Another good example, albeit 360, is Alan Wake. Thrills and chills.

Want a game with great characters and story? Try Planescape: Torment, one of the better RPGs I have played ever, and nothing has come out since that really compares to it. Also Mass Effect or really any bioware game (except the abomination of DA2) will have a good plot/characters, give em a rent sometime.

| Ah yes, Mass Effect is also a pretty good example! And from the Gamecube days: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem had a very intriguing narrative (please port this to the 3DS, I'd love to play it again!)

ED was a great game. Sadly I think we are going to have to wait until fall for any kind of adventure game on the 3ds. ANd by then Uncharted 3/Skyrim will be out, fulfilling my gaming needs.

Absolutely epic! The Elder Scrolls never really 'clicked' with me. I liked the extensive game world, but for some reason the controls always feel a bit clunky and inconvenient to me. |

If you want a game that's all story, play Hotel Dusk, and it's sequel Last Window. It's a bit different to the games you mentioned, but they are both fantastic

You're not alone. I love a game with a good story. ![]() I still like Nintendo's games but if they had a well-written story to them... they could be absolutely amazing! Mario Galaxy with the light-hearted and charm of the Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi series would have been nice. Some games (on Nintendo platforms)with good writing: Wii Trauma Team Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon NDS 999 Ghost Trick Phoenix Wright Radiant Historia |
