Default Does Nintendo make a lot of money on merchandise?

And, of course, they also make a whole lot of money on non-videogame items such as clothing, toys, cartoons, playing cards, board games, snacks and candy, and a million other things that contain their character's likenesses on them.

That's funny, because I was at the store the other day and there are Wii and DS systems on store shelves, along with games for them. They may not be selling as much as they used to, but Nintendo are certainly still making good money on them.

Also, they may be selling the 3DS system at a loss, but they do make and license games for it, ya know.

Are you under the impression that they don't? I mean, I don't suppose they would be manufacturing/outsourcing/licensing all of this stuff because it loses them money or they merely break even on it. Do you?

I'm just asking if stuff like that still exists anymore(or to large proportions anyway). I certainly don't see much merchandise pertaining to Nintendo IP's or assets in Australia. It may be a different story overseas however.

What ever license fee they get from merchandise would obviously be profit I'm just questioning if it is such a large amount. I wouldn't imagine it would be in the million of Yen?

The stuff is all over the place here in the States. I know Japan has more than its share, too. I can't speak for Europe, however.

Where? I see a few toys at Target or in Halloween costume stores and that's all. They do have merchandise at their Nintendo World store but it's just in NY and even then, the store is rather small.

As for Europe, I know France doesn't have much of it at all either. I was surprised last time you brought up this side of their business as if it were a major one, because I would assume it is a very, very small portion of their revenue based on how little Nintendo merchandise I've seen.

Oh geez, I see it all over. I could take a trip to the mall right now and buy some kind of Nintendo merchandise from at least 4-5 chain stores. Mind you, that's just at the mall itself and doesn't count the big "discount" type stores like Walmart, Target, etc. I fail to see how you can't find Nintendo merchandise at anywhere but Target and Halloween stores. That is, unless those are the only places you frequent.

Either that or you're just unobservant to these things....or maybe you don't go to many stores? I don't know. I highly doubt I'm mistaken and that, unbeknownst to me, the greater Portland, OR metropolitan area just happens to be the Nintendo merchandise mecca of the world.

The most I have ever seen in The states is a Keychain, or plush doll. Nintendo makes no where near the amount of money you claim they do on their "toys".

Yeah, I doubt Nintendo makes much money from "toys" seeing as I shop a lot...
