If Microsoft attempts to jump to the next generation already, Nintendo just lost their attempt to catch up with the competition.

The updates indicate that the new Xbox likely isn't coming until 2013.

And that there will likely not be an E3 2001 announcement.

interesting.

announcing 2012 was a given for microsoft tho, and even releasing end 2012 start 2013 was about what i aspected.

Funny if they are going to announce some info about it at the e3.

gona be 1 big e3 this year.

I would say quite the opposite, it gives Nintendo more of a chance to compete next gen

Can't wait to see more details on this.

I hope it's not just gonna be a more powerful xbox.

That's exactly what it will be. Anyways if their going to release it this soon then the Nintendo Feel has a chance of competing graphically if the rumours about it being significantly more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360 are true.

what they do is making a box that is featuring hardware that isn't ready yet. And demonstrate tech demo's off it. While waiting for the hardware to get available.

And not announce the specs of the device, but rather a estimate of what its capable off.

For example the xbox i believe featured 2x 6800 sli videocards in its first version that got send out. ( in a bigger box ) while developers developed games for it, they shifted that towards the hardware they targeted later on towards a 7900 even optimized i believe or a 7800 that performed as those 2 cards.

Take for example handhelds.

2011 3DS + NGP releases ( if NGP releases like planned ) but both feature massive difference in hardware.

in 2010 e3, sony would have known already that they would go for the 4 cored a9's and 4 cored powervr 5's. instead of not showing anything. They could have build a box which features 4x or even 5x of those cores on a large board and demonstrate some tech demo's.

While in 2011 when the cores are made for test solutions ( early ) they could show off the device looks, and launch it at the end of the year.

Even while in 2010 there where no mobiles going even further then 800mhz and 1x a8 or something?

The same thing could happen at the e3 if microsoft announced there box but not the official version yet. Just the early version.

If they know that there release time = in 2012 ( end ) they can already pick hardware based on it.

The box will be huge, but at the time that it gets released its easy maintainable.

The difference in hardware for the wii2 and xbox3 could be incredible if not a hel lot more powerfull. Same as the NGP in the same release year have a ton of more hardware.

By picking off the shell hardware, microsoft see's a safe investment + sony will be able to take a peek at the developers locations on what microsoft has in line. They can just jump towards the same specs and be done with it.

And they will build machines that are powerfuller then the wii2 version. As microsoft and sony are not going to build systems that are on par with a nitnendo device.
