| Has anyone here ever written and/or read fanfiction? What is your opinion on it? Can there be good fanfics or is all of it garbage based on principle? I've read some out of curiosity- some had a few interesting concepts, but most of it is just meehhhh. I've thought about writing some on occasions but I always lose my motivation.

I enjoy reading Twilight fanfiction. Only Team Jacob authors, of course. In general though, fanfiction is, at best, boring and, at worst, hilariously bad. Not a big fan. |

I actually used to read a lot of fanfic back in the day. It was good enough to keep me entertained for hours... but nothing beats original material.

It depends on how the fanfic is written. If it's well written and it's gotten a lot of praise from other writers, then I might consider checking it out.

Fan fiction is, in my opinion, never worth reading. Unless its that one that was thousands of pages long and contained characters from everything ever.

I generally don't read fanfic. Although the 3dsforums fanfic that I think BonBon was writing was really interesting.

It all depends on the quality, I've read some really good ones, and some really awful ones. I don't enjoy it as much as I used to though, that's for sure.

I'm sure there's great fanfiction out there; it's just next to impossible to find it under all the awful stuff. However, there is brilliantly awful stuff out there that is absolutely hilarious. Sometimes I think fanfiction can be a proving ground for new writers. It's 99 percent guaranteed to suck, and recognizing when your stuff sucks is the first step to becoming a better writer; at this point, you'll either give up or move on to the next step. The second step is not giving up until you finally, after eons of laborious and painful work, crank out something that doesn't suck quite as much. After that, it's just a slow climb to writing stuff that's actually decent. It does help explain why there is so much bad fanfiction out there: it's almost all being written by people with no prior writing experience.

I've read Gossip Girl fanfiction before. It was pretty creepy. The author has a weird obsession with the characters Blair and Serena (I have one with Leighton Meester and Blake Lively) so it's no surprise. I've tried writing Lost fanfiction for the last season but that went south fast (just like the actual season). |
