Default Haptic touch technology: Defined

Haptic touch technology is the future of human to technology interaction, but what is it? Haptic touch technology is a touchscreen with a series of mini motors and sensors under it creating different textures like the softness of fur or the grainy feel of sand. Nintendo's next home console is rumored to have this technology on its touch screen and if that was the case you could actually "feel" the game unlike anything you've ever thought possible. The technolgy is already in intensive development and is being used to create better interaction between people and what they're doing such as when you want to roll or shake the dice on your phone, the phone will have the distinct feel and vibration of dice actually hitting the edges of the screen in your phone. There's much more to it than I've described which is why I'll leave some links for anyone interested in learning more about it.

That could be too advanced for any video game console right now, but I do wonder about the future.

People didn't think 3D without glasses was possible, but look at the Nintendo 3DS, it's proof that technology is advancing in leaps and bounds beyond what people may think possible.

I hear yah, but I'm talking about how economic it is gonna be...as in cost. It may make these to-be 8th gen consoles too expensive for many to buy.

I understand that's a concern, but this technology has existed for many years, it's not like it was just made possible last month. With research comes ways to make technology cheaper. Look at Blu-ray players 4 to 5 years ago, they were $500 dollars, now you can buy one way better than the old $500 dollar ones for 1/3 of that cost. It's possible Nintendo is making this a feature on their controller only because it's been researched and developed to a point where it's not going to cost an incredible amount of money to make possible.

Yeah, i watched the videos, and as exciting as this sounds I don't think it'll be in the next Nintendo console. I mean, yeah, I can see how it COULD happen with it pretty much known that the controller would be touch screen, but it does sound pretty expensive.

Also, I don't think Nintendo would put so much attention on the controller. No matter how cool the controller is, the focus will always be what is on the TV screen. This may make more cense for the next portable console though.

4DS sounds right... using 4 out of your 5 natural senses... lol

Good point bigc. If this really does come out with the Nintendo then I may like it, as long as the games have an option to use it or not.

Stopped reading right there.

Haptic technology is "the future" in the same way 3D is. In other words, it isn't unless they force the issue.
