I'm using standard av cables until I get an hdmi cable and the video quality on my PS3 looks absolutely horrible. It looks like a low quality video on youtube.. Is this normal?

Totally. The TV stretches the standard definition picture to fit.

You'll be happy when you'll receive your HDMI cable.

I guess I'll pick up an hdmi cable tomorrow. Kind of hope the quality still sucks, I want an excuse to return the set. :|

Try setting your PS3's video to Automatic.
In order for it not to feed a 1080 reso on your tv.
