Default I have an addiction to music

I've been going through this for the past year roughly. I'm not an obsessive listener, but I've let it control my life at this point. What's playing on my iPod Touch determines my mood and how I'll act that day.

It's almost driven me to suicide, it pulled me out of being suicidal, it's cheered me up, and it's an overall pain in the ass. I want to stop listening to music altogether but I know that's not happening any day soon.

Anyway, I just wanted to get this out there. I feel like I won't acknowledge what's going on unless I put it in front of me.

Thats probably because you listen to Rebecca Black, she makes me also want to commit suicide.

Friday is actually one of the few songs that can cheer me up from anything.

I don't really know how to help, but I had a similar problem once. What kind of music do you typically listen to anyway? Because broadening your horizons might help. I used to only listen to metal, but ever since I spread out into things like vocaloid music, ambient, avant-garde, techno, j-rock, etc., I've become a much happier, more laid-back, and more open-minded person; not to mention I've had greater social success (and I do still listen to metal).

Ambient music or white noise helps calm my mind. I've even started practicing meditation while listening to stuff like this. I don't let the music control my mood, though. I just have it as background noise.

Another example; Vocaloids always put me in a good mood, but the music itself isn't directly changing the way I feel. Why? I don't know. I wish I could answer that, and it's probably the answer you're looking for.

Also, how old are you? I know, that's a creepy question >.> you don't have to say, but I might have some even better advice depending on what you say.

Guessing by your sarcasm, I assume you are among them, yes? You've almost comitted suicide because of MUSIC?

Also, I turn 19 in November.

As for music, I mainly listen to video game music. For example: Zelda, shadow of the colossus, Yume Miru Kusuri (Search "The Plot Thickens" for a good one)

I listen to some Irish punk and pirate metal too.

Oh, you're a year older than me. Yeah, all I can really say is broaden your horizons, also try drawing/painting/building/sculpting, writing, or taking music lessons & writing music if you haven't. It will allow you to have more priority over your thoughts and feelings.

Otherwise, if music continues to literally go as far as make you suicidal, or even just depressed, seek professional help.
