Default Is this idea marketable?

As life goes on, I always look at and anticipate human behavior, I've learned to see the world for what it is, a world where entertainment is more important then anything else. Through thought and analysis I've come up with an idea for a documentary that explores human behavior like never before, "Why They're Rich and You're Not". The documentary is exact ally what it sounds like, a investigative documentary into why so few people in this world are rich and the rest of us aren't and challenges work ethic of regular people. In addition to interviewing people off the street, the documentary would also focus on six other interviews with a broad range of celebrities: Singer, Rapper, Actor, Comedian, Businessman, and Athlete. Chances are when you think of someone rich and successful, it's one of these types of occupation. Regular people to be interviewed would veteran, doctor, nurse, teacher, etc. Through all the interviews and analysis we can then determine an average income, average hours worked a week, which occupation is the most profitable in the long and short term, which is the hardest, how much richer or poorer these occupations are becoming compared to the past, and much more. There's obviously way more to this idea than just interviews of course, a new feature that I call the "expense tracker" would be put in the movie to show the movie's expenses in real time as something is going on, which would allow audiences to experience something they've never seen before. From what you've heard so far, do you think this documentary, if ever created, could be marketable?
Starless, Jasper and Lebon14 like this.

I think there has been tvshows that follow the guidelines of multiple realities.
Take the show "Sliders" for instance.
It was a series that followed that concept on what would happen along the guidelines of same wold different dimension.
A couple of them involved them involving if they were famous or not.

But as for documentary, I can't see that actually going through. If it was an Independent Film, that may be a different story.

You're not in college are you???

I am in college Cody1992, and "The Dude", you have about as much chance as successfully stealing this idea as I do becoming a Harvard lawyer and suing you for stealing my idea. You know there are books that show you how to make nuclear bombs, but nobody can make them because it's a lot easier said than done to make a nuclear bomb, the cost and planning is so substantial that even though you know how to make it, you never really could, the same thing goes with this idea. for record I know you're probably kidding, I just want to tell you the way it is though.

Just so you know, the vast majority of people in those professions aren't going to be wealthy; in fact, apart from the Businessman, I would expect most of them to be scraping by. As a suggestion, it might be better to compare a successful person and one not so successful from the same profession, like a wealthy comedian and a poor comedian. You could see what different approaches they take and how that got them to where they are today.

You have a good idea, though- if you went through with it, I'd definitely watch it.

Film everything first, THEN you edit it to make it marketable. Rule of thumb. Sounds likes an interesting premise, so I hope to god you have experience in film making. Documentaries are a lot harder to put together than you'd think.

Interesting approach antigrammer, I like the suggestion but it's not really what I would consider my philosophy for this idea, in case you weren't aware, there was a TV documentary on the question of wealth in the early 1990s called "Who's Getting Rich, and Why Aren't You? The documentary was about how big business executives were laying off thousands of workers, moving their businesses to other countries, and keeping a vast majority of the money to themselves without any remorse for how their actions were affecting the masses. I mention this because there have been documentaries about wealth before, but, there's never been a mind changing one, in my opinion, they're more about exposing truths rather than challenging what society values more than anything else, entertainment.
