Piss off fans -> Attempt to justify actions -> Continue to piss off fans -> Apologize when overwhelmed by flames -> rinse and repeat

So I'd say we're at stage 4 around now.

Yes. I agree 100% with that article. Considering the way Nintendo released the NES in North America against all odds back in the 1980s, that's a sign that once Nintendo gets it's head wrapped around an idea, it won't give up.

I do not agree. Still wishing Nintendo would go software-only. Hopefully the Wii U will change my mind, but as of right now, I doubt it.

Also, IGN sucks, but at least they suck smartly.

It's not like the editors just write what's on their mind all the time. There's management behind IGN, and that management decided they need to do damage control.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. Let me rephrase it and you tell me if this is an accurate interpretation of what you're saying:

If this is your point:

A) There are many editorials on IGN.

B) Why exactly do you think IGN cares about what people think of them? They've been hated for years and trashed by people in their own industry. Yet they're still the top dog when it comes to traffic.

C) Assuming that management mandated an editorial opinion piece so the masses would be appeased is really conspiratorial. As in, approaching "IGN/Gamespot/etc. get paid off for good reviews" level conspiratorial. There's no evidence for either in any form.

If that's not your point at all, feel free to rephrase.

I don't see why you're assuming IGN wouldn't give a damn if they're losing their Nintendo fanboy readership. Logically, they'd back up if they got anywhere near that.

Or I could just be giving whatever management IGN has far too much credit, which is very likely.
