Default Jury Duty Poll

I have jury duty tomorrow and I don't believe one should be forced to determine if a person is innocent or guilty. I don't want the power to determine someone's life. I'm probably going to get out of it with the prejudice card.

I felt the same way when I went to jury duty (I finally couldn't get out of it anymore, so I had to go). Luckily, all I did was walk in, fill out some paperwork, played Puzzle Quest on my DS for a half hour while waiting to see if I was selected, and was told to go home and my term was served.

Hopefully, it's as easy for you.

No one likes Jury Duty, but it comes part and parcel with being a citizen. Jury of your peers, selected from the populous at random.

I hate the whole Jury system frankly. If I were the accused i wouldn't want a bunch of non-experts, especially Americans, deciding my fate probably less on the basis of evidence and more on the color of my tie and if I wear glasses.

I don't believe that's a good reason to have to be forced to serve jury. Just because my parents mated here and I'm a citizen, I have to partake in a practice that has no morals to me. People could easily lie, be mentally unstable, and you could choose the wrong verdict on an innocent.

It's the same as being forced to sign the draft. It's highly unlikely you'll be drafted, but it's still a piece of paper saying indirectly "you're a sacrifice for the highest authority, your government, so we don't have to mindlessly kill ourselves and mindlessly kill."

War = murder. You kill someone, you're a murderer. I don't believe in God or religion, but I don't believe we should have the power to kill each other, yet it's so easy to die and kill.

If all I had to do was witness and not give a decision based on the "evidence" presented to me, that'd be fine. I wouldn't care. But they're going to ask me what my opinion is, and I don't want to give it.

I hope I get lucky and they don't need me.

I'm going to be a complete rebel here and say that I really want to have jury duty. The whole law system really interests me, but I don't have the morals to be a lawyer.

Well who else should decide it? God? The ice cream man? My pet bunny Sophie?

If you want out of it, pretend you're insane or say all you know about the legal system is from this movie

It is a critical and necessary part of our judicial system and you get paid for it. You can minimize your selection probability by not registering to vote. I never registered to vote but I was still selected when I was 22 because they also use DOL records not just the voter registration database for jury selection which I was unaware of so they got me just because I have a drivers license. I didnt mind much though because I was paid and there was a really hot paralegal in the courtroom that kept me entertained. It is really easy to get out of if you dont want to be there though. Any small biased opinion expressed about something related to the case at hand whether you really feel that way or not and the prosecutor will immediately dismiss you.

Renounce your citizenship and move somewhere that doesn't have juries then. Jury duty is part of how Americans pay the government, along with taxes; dodging it because you don't want to do it is unacceptable if you want to remain as a citizen with all its benefits.
