Default low Ram

I had a norton diagnostic check up and found out my laptop has low ram. Are there any ideas how to clear it up or something. Its affected my internet browsing, use to load up pages pretty quickly after this check my internet browsing has slowed down.

thanks in advance.

Low RAM is something you upgrade. You don't "clear it up" unless you want to start clearing processes to relieve the burden on your PC. And RAM can be fairly cheap to upgrade, depending on your configuration.

Also, this diagnostic check... how was it triggered?

Its a comprehensive check from norton 360. Just said I had low ram. Its quite funny my laptop is only a couple weeks old, recently had to reset my laptop that has 2.0 gb of ram back to factory setting after a friend had a virus of some kind from his portable hard drive while plugging it on my laptop.

It's extremely suspicious that your PC got a lot slower after the test was run. And 2GB should be enough to run an OS and an internet browser.

Here's a little test. Open up the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and click on the "Performance" tab. How much memory is being used with just the internet browser and the task manager open?

The moral of the story is use anti-virus.

Also, the pc repair guy upgraded my ram when I sent my pc off, which was nice, so talk to a repair guy he can most likely install some for you.

I would do what Storm mentioned and get yourself another stick. There is a possibility that you have been hijacked by something and I'm sure it may even have to do with Norton that program sucks up resources like crazy.
I suggest you uninstalling Norton (good luck by the way unless you download the uninstaller), then you need to get a good program like Avast or AVG Free (I've been using this for years).

Don't go buying a stick of RAM just yet.

The first thing you'll want to do is get rid of Norton and use a decent antivirus program. That right there should speed things up on your laptop quite a bit. Another thing- what brand is your laptop? Chances are, you probably have a bunch of stuff loading at startup and eating up your resources. Since you don't know much about computers, I would let someone who does take care of that and ask them to show you how it's done.

As for the RAM, I don't know....2GB for a laptop seems pretty good to me. What are you doing with it? Just surfing the internet and using an office suite and such? It shouldn't need more than that. However, if you want to add more just for the sake of doing so, you're going to need to find out whether you CAN just buy a 2GB stick of RAM to put in there. If you have 2GB now, you could very well have both of your RAM slots filled with a 1GB stick each. To go up to 4GB, you might have to buy two sticks of RAM, not just one. Now you're starting to get into a greater expense for something you may not even need.

norton lol.

- remove norton.
- get adaware ( adeware whatever its called ) + run a full updated check on your system.
- remove cookies / catch etc in your internet browser
- download and install avg free edition + update and run a full scan

PC still slow as **** or laptop, reinstall windows, do the same thing again what i placed above. And be done with it.

Having still ram problems

Upgrade, and if you are using windows vista > windows 7. vista is a memory problem all together.

problem solved.
