I'm playing pokemon heartgold and I don't know who to use. Meganium has great defences and a decent attack, but Exeggutor has great hp, defense, and special attack. Who should i use for competitive battling?

Go with Exeggcutor, even if you already have a psychic Pokemon on your team it'll be much more useful than Meganium.

I EV trained Meganium in HG and my team carried it the whole time.. In SS Exeggcutor was one of my strongest.

I have a Starmie that knows ice beam, surf, thunderbolt, and psychic; and it's really good because of its moveset what should i teach exeggutor.

Here is a moveset that i came up with
trick room, energy ball, psychic, and egg bomb.

Get Exeggutor, Meganium's attack is mediocre and has too many weaknesses. At least Exeggutor is a also a Psychic type.

Neither pokemon is very good in OU play.

Meganium is flowery and boring.
Exeggutor is a god damned beast. One of the few Pokemon that's a straight up pimp.

Cool.. I thought you were just starting out the game.. a good reason to not pick Meganium is that it's weak to almost every pokemon team rocket uses. Even if you aren't just starting out though Exeggcutor is much smarter choice. I think you'll need a heart scale to teach it Eggbomg though.. But I'm not sure.

The only good thing Meganium ever did for me as learn "Aromatherapy".

ingrain
leechseed

and has a big root. He's not bad either. Used to help me take down a few pokemon competitively on soul silver. havent tried on black version yet though

If you want a healer, go with meganium(proper natured and ev trained) with aromatherapy and synthesis, if you want a sweeper go with exeggutor
