Sometimes when I start up my computer it turns on but it displays a black screen and does nothing. It just happened so I held down the power button like I always do, but it won't turn off so I can start it up again. Any help would be appreciated.

I've had 2 laptops and I do it when it locks up, but I'm a rather impaciant person so do whatever you like

Did it even show the startup logo? If not, I'm pretty sure pulling out the battery won't cause any harm to your data as the OS hasn't even loaded yet.

Can you even hear sounds coming out of the computer?
