| The idea here is to suggest things that are available to view on Netflix Instant streaming, stuff you can watch on the 3DS basically. Tell us the title, and tell us why you liked it. Doctor Who Seasons 1-5. I resisted for a long time but I finally broke down and watched this because it was on Netflix, fantastic series really. The premise of the show allows it to be quite flexible, allowing the stories it tells episode to episode to be of drastically different genres, yet still tie together. It is fun, whimsical, terrifying, disturbing... sometimes all at once. And if you like it you can always dive back into the 40 some odd years of serials also on Netflix... but I'd suggest starting with the 2005 revival which is 'season 1'. Torchwood A darker and sexier Doctor Who spin off. Not a lot to say about this really, just if you take my advice and like the former, watch this too. Top Gear (U.K.) The original and the best. It has sprung off a Australian and a US version but the UK series is just great. What is it? A car show hosted by three guys who love cars... and it is simply amazing. I'm not a car guy, I could care less about brake horsepower... but you don't have to like cars to enjoy this show... these guys are just so excited about what they're doing it is pure entertainment. Some episodes they're traveling the world, some episode they're modifying old cars, some weeks they're racing supercars (against jets, speed boats, free runners, BMX racers, men in wing suits), and some episodes they are participating in an amphibious assault with the Royal Marines in a stock Ford Fiesta. It is crazy, and it is always entertaining. Sherlock (Masterpiece Mystery Theater) A modern day version of the Sherlock Holmes stories. How would Sherlock deal with modern technology, forensics, and what not. A hokey premise? Sure, but it is clearly done with love and is quite smartly written. Only 3 episodes each about an hour and a half, but they are quite well done. I particularly like the treatment of Watson. In the original stories he was of course a British Army doctor who was wounded in Afghanistan... and that certainly translates well to modern times doesn't it? I have read all the original Doyle stories, and this isn't the greatest adaption, but it is an interesting one. I quite enjoyed the take. Alright enough British stuff... people might think I'm an Anglophile. John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy, it isn't really a true trilogy, but three films done by him that people like to group together for similar themes of psychological horror and Lovecraftian elements. All of which are high octane nightmare fuel. -The Thing "If I was an imitation, a perfect imitation, how would you know I was me?" -They Live! "I have come here to chew bubblegum, and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum." -In the Mouth of Madness "Do you read Sutter Cane?" That's weeks worth of viewing off the top of my head (seriously 15 seasons of Top Gear...), what are you guys watching? |
