| "Since Nintendo exists it is focused on bringing fun, wheter it is with cards, zappers or motion controllers, while their competitors are focused on tv's, stereos and computers, and they decided to join to the bussiness years after Nintendo did. Once the n64 was released, it incorpored the analog stick, rumble pack and cool features, copied (for the first time it seems) from Sony, who included analog sticks and rumble features on their controllers. (...)While a change for Nintendo means an evolution on the way we play, for other companies means an evolution about graphics, wich is cool, but an image can't be the foundation of a game. Let's look at hanhelds: while the big N created a new way of playing with the DS, the rest based again in graphics; we know the results: the nds is the most selling hanheld in Nintendo's story, and the ports for psp where the same as the consoles, so there was no creativity, (...)The sauciness came with the Wii: while a lot of people said it couldn't sell cause it had no HD graphics, etc. it didn't hapenned and the Wii broke records in sales. Seeing the Wii's success, obviously they would wanted to copy it, and they launched a controller wich is a cinic copy of the Wii Mote, and their publicity is the same as the Wii years ago, and they still call it "a new way to play" Ps move (2010) Wii Mote (2006) (...)This was written 3 days before E3, and i think they will innovate again, surely, competitors are paying attention to see what can they stea...implement onto their projects, there's no need to be a genius to know their next consoles will have better resolution, but with the same controller from 3 gens back. Anything Nintendo presents this year will be copied in the next months or years. This way, there can't be an advance in the industry, since not all companies think in the same way. Luckyly, Nintendo will maintain balance." Credits to Club Nintendo Magazine |

Nintendo is the mad scientist of the gaming world. Yes are first to market with a lot of innovations, but this also means that their innovations get to be improved upon by their competition. They do the R&D, they have the upfront cost, and they run into the problems and limitations first. Then their competition works out the bugs and releases generally better equipment, from a purely technical standpoint. I am not bashing Nintendo, this is true for for any industry. Apple didn't invent MP3 players, smartphones, or tablets... but after other people did, they swooped in polished, and rebranded. Same thing with Nintendo and Sony. Sony's equipment is better, if you don't mind waiting. |

I agree with the article! Playing my Xbox is fun, but it doesn't give me the same feeling I get when I play my Wii or 3DS. Seems to me like Nintendo emphasizes alot on the "experience" while other companies focus on making products that'll fit with the trends. I love all the companies pretty much the same, but Nintendo stands out to me.

Since this seems to be a thread for posting corporate propaganda, here are some wise words of warning offered by a Sony executive to Nintendo... PlayStation boss: Nintendo 3DS a 'babysitting tool' | Crave - CNET The real Nintendo difference is that no generation of Nintendo consoles is really new or different: - they all start out lagging behind in capabilities, - you know there's going to be a 3D Mario, a Zelda and a Mario Kart, and some minigames/partygames with happy songs and cute dancing turtles - you can be sure your kid will not be exposed to blood, mature themes and other things that will challenge its infant brains - you know that any 3rd party developers will leave in droves after the launch window That's what really sets Nintendo apart from its more forward looking competitors. |

I think everyone can agree that Nintendo were the most influential hardware maker for a loooooong time. They revived the video game industry after Atari pretty much killed it. Nintendo first created the D-pad - of course everyone is going to copy it, it made playing games MUCH better. Shoulder buttons (SNES)- More inputs= more gameplay Analog stick - best way for movement in total 3D worlds Rumble pack- feel your games Alright Nintendo revolutionized gaming control with their first 3 consoles, which was then copied by the competition. And why not? Whats wrong with that? Its GOOD for the industry. Sony makes it 2 analog sticks, so aiming and movement can be separated which makes it more intuitive. Nintendo and MS copied that one. MS puts memory IN the system (by way of internal hdds). MS makes Online play the NORM (though really first tried by SEGA). Sony saw that trend becoming the norm, and Nintendo STILL barely has a good online system. Alright, fast forward to 2006 and the release of the Wii... Wiimote- allowing motion controlled gameplay. Wii goes on to sell a crapload of systems. Sony and MS think they need a ride on that bandwagon. Though IMO they didnt need to. Motion control really is just a fad in my eyes and will NEVER become the norm in the game industry. Now we have the WiiU, and the WiiPad streaming video controller. Will the competition want to take advantage of that? I guess we shall see. I dont see Microsoft wanting to copy that, but Sony probably already can with their Vita and the PS3. My point is basically that a benefit to the industry is going to be adopted by all the competitors. Its a fact of business. Nintendo gets Kudos for being the company that sends the industry forward, but people shouldnt complain about competitors COPYING another because thats what drives the industry. Each company improves on the original idea and gamers benefit. If its good for the consumers, then its good. |
