Nintendo discontinues DS Lite handheld and ends support for GameBoy Advance | VentureBeat

So Nintendo has decided to stop manufacturing the DS Lite after 5 years on the market. Not too surprising considering there are 3 different versions of the DS to choose from now. They most likely need to make room for the 3DS. Anyway, what interests me is that they've also decided to stop supporting the GBA with software. Could this be a sign that Nintendo is prepping GBA games for an eventual release on the 3DS eShop? I certainly hope so.

It was time for it to go anyway. With the advent of the 3DS, Nintendo had 5 systems being produced at the same time, in 14 different colors. Something had to go, and the DS Lite was 5 years old, the aversge lifespan of a Nintendo system. As long as I still have my Pokémon DS Lite, I'm happy.

My thoughts exactly. Besides, at this point, pretty much everyone who ever wanted a DS Lite already has one. The way I see it, now Nintendo has more money freed up that can be put to good use with the 3DS, Project Cafe, etc.

That sucks. I'm really having a hard time letting the GBA go as it is. I love my SP, I played so many hours on it. I have so many good memories of me and my best friend playing and trading Pokémon in RSE/FRLG.

I feel old. Can't believe that GameStop says the Game Boy Advance is a collector's item, too. Technology is moving too fast! Whaaa!

Lucky me, I have a DS Lite.
The local Gamestop was still selling some Gameboy games for about 40$ (insane.)
I saw Pokemon Emerald was there, and I was eager to buy it.
Definitly worth that 40$
