Default Official 3DS Forums Book Club : What are you reading right now?

Welcome to the official 3DS Forums book club!

Here you can discuss and recommend different books of any genre for other members to read.
Also, depending on how active this thread becomes, we may even have reading events!
I'll start this thread off simple and if it becomes popular, I'll add more events and information.

I'll start off by asking if any member here has read The Last Oracle by James Rollins?

If you are into heroic adventure with gladiators, monsters and fantasy then David Gemmell has a great series of books that are fast paced with witty dialog and good fight sequences.

Here is an example of a line from one of his books LOLOLOLOL :

"I would rather slap the nuts of a hungry lion than kiss your sister"

Harry Potter Series.
Eragon Series.
All of Gary Paulson's books. (The Hatchet, Wood Song)
Percy Jackson Series. Not the movie. If you want to see crap, the movie is perfect for you.

I liked the dragonriders of pern and eragon books, and now I'm reading some of carol bergs books. I really liked the lighthouse duet, as it portayed the concept of magic in way I've never seen. Rather than potray it as a happy simple force, its portayed as a hard drug type substance. IE: the character needs a plant to use it, and without the plant he goes through withdrawls. Now I'm reading The Bridge of D'Arnath series, I would really recommend carol berg if your into fantasy and looking for something new.

On top of these, I'll add the Hunger Games series, which is like Battle Royale.
I also like the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson, which is a very relaxed style and is sorta anime written. Not for everyone, though

And yes, the Percy Jackson movie was crap. I regret seeing it.

Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club, Snuff and Invisible Monsters, among others

Irvine Welsh, Trainspotting (the movie is awesome too, as well as Fight Club, highly recommended) Acid House, Filth

And for the begginers of dirty realism, Charles Bukowski

Does anybody read about history or US history specifically?
I'm a US History major, so if I could discuss any books or articles on the matter, I'd by very happy.

Soldier's Heart by Gary Paulson is one of my favorite books. Its about a kid who goes off and joins the Union during the Civil War

I recently read The Count of Monte Cristo. It was amazing. Now I am reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It is okay.

Is it based on true events or is it fiction?
Because if we're talking about fiction, The Red Badge of Courage is an amazing story.
