Old by far. The old style actually had substance. It made the game scary and it worked damm well. The new style, while fine, is generic and sluggish third person control, as RE5 clearly indicates.

Also, the old RE style was not hard to control. Anyone who says it was difficult or broken either sucks at video games, or didn't actually give it a try. Listen to no one who disses it because of this.

New.

I also don't see why people say the old style was scarier. Stuck camera perspectives? How? The over-the-shoulder-view at least makes you feel more like you're actually there. You also don't know what's behind you, and you still don't know what's behind the corner ahead. How is that less scary than the old?

I think the old formula is far better than the new one and this isn't nostalgia talking. I genuinely prefer the older style and I religiously believe that RE4 is the worst thing to happen to the series.

Sure, RE needed a boost, I'm not denying that, but Capcom went way too far with RE4/RE5. I just can't see it more than an action/adventure game with the RE sticker on it.

In fact, I think I'll go and replay RE1-3 + Code Veronica to remind myself, what gaming has lost.

Well, it depends actully. RE4 use of the new camera angle is amazing, but RE5's is, eh, awkward? I don't like it, but the Fixed camera angles for Resident Evil one till three gives the games a great feel that the new Resident Evil games doesn't have, so i prefer the old. (Maybe until Revelations comes out?)
