Default One simple question about the NGP

I know there are plenty of threads on the NGP, but this is probably a good topic.

Why didn't they leave the UMD slot to allow for full backwards compatibility?
If they would have done that, I would be more likely to pick one up. I have never owned a PSP, but now I look at some of the games and I would like to actually play some of them.

Just downloads would be fine if the game I would be most interested in was available for download. Since Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep is not available to download, I would prefer it to have the UMD slot.

The DS had the gba slot, so why can't the NGP have the UMD as well?

Honestly I didn't think the NGP didn't look too big to me. I would prefer backwards compatibility to being really small anyway.

I agree. It basically makes all of my UMDs useless. Until Sony gives me an option of somehow transferring my UMDs to the NGP, I will hold off my purchase when it is released. It's not fair that we consumers have to suffer due to Sony's poor choice of media for a physical copy of a game. I don't like digital copies.

The reasoning is quite simple, UDM failed hard, harder then any other Sony medium to date (and considering MiniDisc that's saying something)... The UDm was a medium that just wasn't going to be able to settle itself in the market, that was clear from day one, and the pushing of Sony on the UMD proved more and more that the medium was D.O.A.. The PSPGo already proved that Sony wanted to get rid of the UMD by giving download only and the promised UMD to Digital station's never came through...

And the same reason why it's not on the NGP, it failed as a medium... It didn't have any redeeming quality's and it ate the PSP's battery like crazy and that's not counting the loading times that the PSP games useally had (1 minute and counting). UMD is dead and it won't be brought back any way or form, so I really don't even expect a device that makes then compatible by a cable from Sony themself...

Well yeah, but they can use it for backwards compatibility. either that or force all games to be able to download. Cause right now, sure the UMD was a very unsuccessful format, but it's what many PSP games were only on. There were games that were not put on the PSN store.

I had a PSP and I didn't like how noisy the UMDs were when they'd be constantly spinning around inside. It was pretty annoying.
