| The researchers want another group to do tests and confirm them for more concreteness, but they tested a certain particle over a distance of I think 732Km and they traveled 60 nanoseconds faster than the speed of light would have. It's not a whole lot faster, but it opens up possibility. |

Why is the title particles moving faster than the speed of sound?

This doesn't surprise me, confirmed or not. Einstein was a great guy with great ideas that set the foundation for a lot of groundbreaking work, which isn't to say the parts of relativity theory I do understand aren't groundbreaking in themselves. I'm curious, does this fact change or break down any of Einsteins other math (photon theory of light)? Also, does this effect the theory of time dilation in any way? Laymen here, be easy.

It won't negate any of his math. It would just negate the part of the theory of general relativity that says nothing can travel past the speed of light. So I'm guessing we may have to rework E=MC^2? I dunno, I haven't studied Einstein's theories before.

It doesn't yet Maine, right now there is just curious data, the test need to be independently repeated, all the variables need to be accounted for. Right now all we have is a, "That's weird," however the great breakthroughs in science rarely are met with a 'Eureka!' but rather someone looking at test results and saying "That's odd." Still 1,500 runs and consistently arriving faster than light is... astounding... if that is indeed the case, first they need to make sure Melvin didn't screw up the calibrations.

| As far as I know, it wouldn't invalidate Einstein, it would just mean his theory is not a complete picture of the universe. Just like Newton's laws weren't invalidated by relativity or quantum mechanics.
