4. Why doesn't N count? He is your rival throughout the game. I want to pick him. Oh well, I guess blue

1. Red, obviously.
I just pretend every new protagonist is Red in new clothing.

2. Giovanni and Rocket. I liked the mafia/common criminal direction that they took, instead of the "I'M GOING TO CONTROL GODS AND TAKE OVER THE WORLD" style of the more recent ones. Also, having the evil boss also act as the final gym leader blew my mind as a kid.

3. Blue. The rival being the champion was a beautiful setup for the final battle, and really made the moment have more impact than versing a character you met maybe twice. The stakes really felt high when you took him on.

4. Blue wins this one too. A rival shouldn't be just a kid you're friendly with. You should want to kick his ass more than anything.
Silver was also great, but while he was an abusive prick, Blue just busts your balls and makes you despise him on a more personal level.

5. Black and White, actually.
You were expecting Gen 1 for every answer, weren't you?

1. Black. Just because he has the best outfit IMO. But then again, red is the best trainer.

2. Giovanni and Rocket. The teams after Rocket have been kinda stupid.

3. Cynthia. She isn't my favorite in terms of personality or anything, but she has my favorite battle theme. That alone makes her my favorite.

4. My favorite rival is either Gary or Silver. Gary was just badass, and Silver stole pokemon and you had to track him down.

5. My favorite OST is definitely Black and White. It is just... good. Some songs aren't good, but the majority of the songs are better than the majority of the songs in all other pokemon games. Still think Cynthia's battle theme is better than most pokemon battle songs as well.

Technically he is one of the final bosses on the bad guys side, that's why I said he didn't count. Cheren and Bianca are the rivals.
