Default Quick fix for a DS?

I have an original DS which I've had for around 6 years. After never having a problem with it, I recently decided my 4 year old could have it, as I upgraded to a DSi XL last year. The other day I went to charge it for her and I noticed the hinge component, second from the right, was broken. I have the piece that broke off. Does any one know a good adhesive to use to glue the piece back on, and if this will even work? Everything I've googled seems to suggest I must buy a new shell and completely swap them over. I really would prefer not to go that much trouble unless absolutely necessary. I'm not suer if it is the fact it is 6 years old, the fact my daughter is 4 years old, or a combination that resulted in the breakage. So I don't really want to give her the XL (which is the EVENTUAL plan now I have my 3DS) until I can be sure she won't break it to.

The broken hinge is causing the upper screen to open at a roughly 35 degree angled corner. It is unplayable without manually holding it in the right place. There is no other damage to it whatsoever, both screens still display perfectly and the touch screen is as responsive as ever.

Yeah, that happened to mine as well. It made a crack, which grew over time. Eventually this happened.

I had to get a new DS...
My advice? You're screwed. Sorry. :/

I see you have a DS Lite. The hinge system on a DS is a bit different, if it causes a crack, it's going too cause a lot more to come off,I'm guessing....

That's exactly what happened to my DS Lite too! Maybe all the first Ds lites to be realesed had that problem. (mine was also polar white)

Wink

Again, the DS in question is an original DS, not a DS Lite.

If you really want to keep the DS Phat, then the only way to fix it is to buy a new shell. But if you don't really want to go to that extent, then just give her the DSi XL. It's a much more sturdy design than the original and Lite models.

It was probably just old age that did it in.

I've been through two DS Lites. My DS Phat, however, is still in use.

Exact same thing happened to my Polar white DsLite too.
Just randomly broke (after R button started sticking) when I closed it.
Sent it to nintendo (for free) and got it repaired (for free).

When it was send back I noticed that what they really did was glue the piece back on.
The glue held for years before I traded it in for a 3DS.

So it might be possible to fix the hinge on the Ds phat.

Both of mine were white.
A conspiracy in the making, perhaps? :b
