Default Quick Question About The NGP

I've been reading up a little on the NGP, and I'm a bit confused. What is it that I'm hearing about a touchscreen on the back? Is there really going to be a touchscreen on the back, and if so, what will it be used for? I don't get it.

Yes. There is a touchpad on the back.

I don't get it much either.

The only game I've seen that used it in an interesting way is Little Deviants.

Seen here:

Other than that I can't really think of any practical uses for the back touchpad. Oh, well, I'm not a game developer anyway.

Yeah. That's pretty cool. I just think that all of the games that use the back touchscreen will be stupid, cause it will just be a forced gimmick.

I don't understand how you hold the NGP, in handhelds, I require my fingers to be on the back of the system, but with the touchscreen my fingers could interfere.

The touchpad on the back is dual sensing, meaning that you can use two fingers instead of one, or like with the DS and 3DS, one stylus.

It will be interesting to see how that goes.

I think its interesting, having a touchscreen on the back, but I cant think of much use for it besides negative gimmicks. Like tacked on Waggle in Wii games.

I don't like the use of the word "gimmick", either for Nintendo or Sony. They're all ways to make gameplay better...even if Sony adapts it later than Nintendo.

No such things as gimmicks.

No such things as gimmicks.

Everything is a gimmick until it becomes mass market and "the norm."

I'd haveta kindly disagree. Gimmick is used negatively, in an "it shouldn't happen" context.

I notice that people who like what they see usually don't use the word "gimmick". Well, all except for me and (I'm sure) many others, who won't even call features they don't like gimmicks.
