It's not that far fetched. Just download that RPG Maker program and get to work. It looks pretty damned intuitive. I've always wanted to get it because I've got a short list of ideas I'd like to expand upon and make RPG games out of. I just don't have the time and patience right now to do it the right way. But get that RPG Maker program (google it) and get to work.

EDIT:

Yeah, that's true. lol. That's pretty much why I haven't gotten started, because I dont want to make a crap game, and I know I don't have the time to make what is in my mind right now. But it does have the potential to make something awesome, it's just almost nobody takes that time.

A good basis would be to start making modules like in neverwint nights. They give u alot of options and it would be a good place to start.

Are you a flash game maker? I'm only trying to get started to create flash games. (don't ask me to do it! XD) Flash is a good basis to start developing RPGS on.

I would recommend the Blender Game Engine, which is inside of the Blender 3D modeler, meaning that the engine is packaged in the 3D modeler. While that may sound odd, it is very good for a game creation workflow. Because the engine is packaged inside of the 3D modeler, you get a tileset / world editor. You can use logic bricks (graphical programming bricks), but you'll need to learn Python to make an RPG game correctly. That's still a lot less than you would usualy have to learn to make an RPG game in other game engines / game frameworks, though. If you do choose to go with the BGE, there's a great community and tutorials present on BlenderArtists.com. I also have a set of tutorials on using the Python in the BGE here.

Redundant title is redundant.

Start small and work your way up. Don't get in over your head!
