Default Some weird lines

so last night i was reading....and was using my 3DS as a book light..and i was like what are those lines that are all over the book and whatever...they were like black lines just there...so i turn off the 3d and boom no more lines...
I was like WTH

Were the lines vertical or horizontal? In relation to your 3DS screen, I mean.

(Comes up with a theory ready to test against the answer.)

Why would you even have the 3D feature on when using it as a book light?
You should try to conserve power.

Actually..bonbon..it was when i first turned it on... and they were verticle lines.

vertical, hm? Well, that would fit with my theory. I'll explain it, but I can't promise that it's the actual reason why.

Apparently, the 3D effect is done using something called a parallax barrier. There's material over the 3D screen that has a series of precise slits, designed so that your left eye sees half the pixels, and your right eye sees the other half.

The slits run top to bottom, so maybe the lines that you were seeing were the shadows of that material--the slits let through enough light so you could read.
