Default Sometimes when you're an adult and you own a house...

and have kids, thinks break, like the air-conditioner, and it costs over $300 to fix, so you're not buying games or movies or comics or going to Disney for a couple of months.

But on the upside, I have a cool house and my wife and kids are comfortable again.

That 'lol' wasn't from Schadenfreude over the OP's plight. I feel for poor derf_on3ds.

It was from a sense of irony: the post explains to kids something many of them would probably feel is unfair--"why can't we buy any games/movies/comics when we normally do?" And I was pointing out that us poor adults have to deal with something else many kids also feel is unfair--"why are you giving me such a small allowance when you can buy anything you want?"

I guess most adults with jobs have gotten used to how obvious the similarity between wages and allowances is. But to homeowners, "things break" is also kinda obvious. (Like my friend who went to redo her basement floor, but ended up having to tear down her chimney and rebuild large chunks of the house foundation because of hidden water damage.)
