| Laptops are computers and portable. With a laptop, at least with a laptop, you'd know what you're getting in to. You're better off doing a google search on tablet computers than creating a thread.

| Not necessarily. It depends on the quality of the laptop. An Ipad cost more than a decent laptop. I recommended googling for your information because you're guaranteed results. I have no idea if anyone in this forum owns a tablet computer. Someone probably does.

I own a tablet; it was a gift from my high school graduation. If you're just looking to surf the web and play games, it can certainly handle that. My Motorola Xoom can play some pretty good looking games, such as the mobile version of Dungeon Defenders. Surfing the web is no problem, although since you're getting a touchscreen device, you have to give up tooltips and similar web functions, which can be annoying if you are on a site that uses them heavily. One piece of advice: absolutely do not get one if you need it for educational purposes. My tablet is essentially useless at my college, given that it's nearly impossible to type on- being a touchscreen, anything more than a couple sentences is unbearably clunky- and it's unlikely that you will be able to download and install some required applications for your course. I wasn't able to use Excel, Jing, or XMind, all of which were required for different courses. If you need it for school or work, get a laptop. If you just want something to play around with that's easy to lug around, go ahead and get a tablet.

I think you should just get a laptop or a netbook, they're cheap enough and you get a lot more functionality. Perhaps even a chromebook if all you want is internet on it and don't need to install specific software. Tablets and ereaders are pretty dumb imo. If you are set on a tablet however, look into things like the Asus Transformer and Android devices to keep costs down... |
