I don't want this thread to turn into some hate/arguing thread, but what laws do you think are the dumbest and shouldn't exist? For me I'll be talking about U.S. laws because I'm from the U.S. but anyone can join in. Please tell why the law is dumb and why it shouldn't exist.

2. Drinking age is 21: I think this law is dumb because its clearly a law that was pressured by MAAD (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) and not society as a whole. I could go on and on about this topic but, I believe it shouldn't exist because one group of people think it's a danger to society, when it's clearly a right that adults should have, if they're able to smoke at 18, get married at 18, join the military at 18, own property at 18, and everything else an adult has the right to do, then they should be able to drink alcohol.

It honestly shocks me that the legal drinking age in the US is 21... so you can feature in "adult films" or be an "exotic dancer" at 18 but can't drink? what. the. hell.

i'm a law student so most of the law stuff i find ridiculous is relatively boring, for example the rules abuot indefeasible title at registration in property law are ridiculous, the court of "equity" which aims to be "the court of fairness" generally stuffs over people who aren't adept with the law etc.

i could go on but i wont bore you all :P

I like to hear people from other countrie's speak against one another, I believe it's a valuable asset in figuring out what is really legitimate or just biased.

2. I agree again. What is so special about 21 anyway? Why not just make it 18?

The dumbest law was the one where people can't sleep with other people while married... oh wait, that's just ethics.

Added after 2 minutes:

You know, they could probably make it less than 18.

The earliest I ever tasted alcohol was when I was a baby (it's what you do when your kids are teething, you rub alcohol on their gums.)

So then why aren't in jail?! HUH?!

They could, but 18 makes sense. You get so many privileges at 18 and are considered legally an adult.

Recently, they changed the law in my city that you can't buy alcohol from a store after midnight. You can still buy it from a bar until 2am. The idea was to cut down on drunk driving. But, if I was buying it at a store, I would be drinking it at home. So, if it's after midnight I'm now forced to drink at a bar?!

I only find this law annoying because I work until 11:30pm, and I'm often rushed to get to the store before they shut down on Fri. night or I have to buy my beer ahead of time.

Public drunkenness is what I find hilarious.
Basically, here (I don't know if they do it anywhere else) they have cops everywhere sitting outside of bars waiting for people to stumble out drunk. So you can go in, have a drink, but don't you DARE get drunk at a bar and then try to walk home. Or, just be good at hiding it.

I'm pretty sure these are the dumbest laws. (I'm not making them up)

In Alaska it's illegal to push a live moose out of a moving airplane.
In Massachusets it's illegal to eat in a place that's on fire.
In New York, the penalty of jumping off of a building is death.
In Florida on a Sunday afternoon, an unmaried woman can be jailed for parachuting
In Colorado it is unlawful to lend your vacuum to your neighbor
In Pennsylvania it is illegal to sleep on top of a refridgerator out doors
In Pennsylvania it is illegal to use dynamite to catch a fish.
In Tennesse it is illegal to catch a fish with a lasso.

Those are the main ones that I can remember...There are plenty of others. But that just goes to show how messed up the United States are! XD (I'm a US citizen too so don't think I'm insulting anyone).

^^^^^^^This. In the USA, there are a bunch of state laws that are completely random.

Another example, in Tennessee you can't shoot any game other than whales from a moving automobile.
