Default What Skyward Sword Could Mean for the Future of the Zelda Franchise

What Skyward Sword Could Mean for the Future of the Zelda Franchise - shmuga9: Blog - IGN

I wrote an article on what skyward sword could mean for the future of the Zelda franchise. I'm not full of myself so I'm not going to say it's the greatest, but I did put a lot of effort into it and I think it turned out pretty good. Also, I don't know how else I'd get people to see or read it on IGN unless I was spamming, because you can't just get 100 (or more) followers over night.

I just want to hear some other people's opinions on it and hear what they have to say as well.

Well written article, and I appreciate your arguments in favor of the new design choices.

Although I must say I don't fully agree with everything. Personally, I like Hyrule to be as huge as possible. I want to feel like I'm exploring new realms and discovering corners of the world unseen to anyone else, rather than visiting the neighbors (like in OoT). If the world will be any smaller than Ocarina's I'm going to be massively disappointed.

Also, I'm not too excited for introducing 'backtracking' into dungeons. I mean, backtracking was the biggest flaw in the Metroid franchise. Running into a dead end because you didn't have the grapple hook yet is just a lame way to artificially add hours to the gameplay because you keep running around places you've already been through.

What Zelda really needs is a complete reboot of the story. If Zelda lets herself be kidnapped one more time she doesn't deserve to be rescued anymore. Freaking drama queen just keeps falling for the wrong guys it seems.

I think we were discussing the story and gameplay mechanisms, not the graphics. I'm sure Zelda's graphics will always grow along with the platform, but the gameplay is still a bit stuck in the 90s when the brilliant OoT was first released and it hasn't really evolved since.

Nice write-up. It's way better than some of the so-called professional articles that I read on IGN or gamespot.

That being said, I have a lot of hopes for Skyward Sword. Some part of me believes that it's going to be this generation's Ocarina of Time.

Thank you!

Also, I kinda agree and disagree. I still would like the world to be fairly big, but going back and playing OoT on the 3DS, walking around through (at least Hyrule field) was boring and it was just a big empty nothingness. Maybe if it's more along the lines of Twilight Princess where there's more things to do than fine.

I know I'd like a big area too, but personally I'd give some of it up just so I wouldn't have to roll around forever. It just felt like it was wasting time to me, but I digress.

Thanks, that means a lot. I kinda figured I would hear something like that... especially after that one article about a week ago about LittleBigPlanet by Scott Bromley and someone else. That was just... horrid, even for IGN, lol.

Ya I have the same feeling. Skyward Sword is bringing a lot of new things to the franchise and I feel like it's making a big jump for the franchise. Especially with the "no more Zelda" motivation.
