Definitely not "forced" into it, but because of certain situations I basically had to leave and go somewhere for college. If I didn't, it would be community college, but definitely somewhere either way. I don't really even know what I would do if I didn't go at all.

I have no idea why I'm in college. I'm sure I'd have a boring 9-5 job anyway. I guess I just figured it was the next step out of high school. College isn't really putting me out any because I get a full scholarship from my Native American tribe. And I didn't have to go to school, I would probably have a job right now, which is something I dread having. After arriving at college a year ago, I had no idea what I wanted to even major in. I was stuck between Biology and Wildlife and Fishery Science. But now I'm into Anthropology, which I enjoy in theory, but I don't know if I'd like a job in it or not. I doubt I'm smart enough to get a Doctorate, so an average job is probably all I'm ever going to achieve. There is a program I was invited to this summer in Coasta Rica that would possibly give me an insight if going to school is even worth it, but it intrudes on the Spring semester, so I can't attend. It seems everyone is getting a degree now, so it's not the job-obtainer it used to be. I guess if worse comes to worse, I could always go back and get a teaching degree to teach high school.

I was definitely pushed into going to university, but it was for my own good. I just started on the 7th and I've already had my rough patch of "OMG I HATE THIS I'M DROPPING OUT" because of it. I mean, let's be real. I'm in art school, working on getting my BFA. I KNOW I'm going to have to do a lot more after that (like get an education degree on top) and the very thought of even next year freaks me out. It's a buttload of work for basically nothing so I'm just making the most out of it. That's not to say that I don't totally love it right now, because it's awesome. Just the insanely high tuition on top of supplies cost (UGH don't get me started) is a little staggering. GO TO SCHOOL, KIDS.

I'm in college kind of for the same reason as Cody. Next step out of highschool. I'm there to get a degree in Audio Production Technology. I hope i can get somewhere with that. Because i love music and i want to make a decent amount of money someday recording musicians. But for the most part, i enjoy college. You meet a lot of great people, people who are much more mature than they were in high school. It's been 3 years and i've gained a lot of experience. Experience that can be used in so many ways whether college leads me somewhere or not.

I'm in college not only so that I can expand my horizons and acquire knowledge but also to discover what I want to do with my life.

'Cause I'm still in High School and going to college early is offered. It's actually a pretty nice deal: I only have to pay for textbooks, and I don't have to deal with all the High School drama crap.

I'll be honest and say I'm in college because I love to learn. My high school did not challenge me at all, just the same repetitive memorization. I'm now thoroughly enjoying college because I'm actually required to think critically. In addition, I'm doing undergrad research in material science, specifically nanotechnology. College has also allowed me to meet some of the coolest people and that's probably been the best part.

I'm in college because I want to delay entering the real world for as long as possible. Let's be honest, the way I see it, youth is over after graduating from college. Sure there are lots of great experiences to be had like the most obvious, raising children, but in terms of my own individual life I'm convinced I'll always look back on those school/college years as the best of my life. So by being in college I'm being young for a little while longer. However I will say, being an international student, that you guys (and I) are paying way, way, WAY too much for higher education. That goes for America and Japan at least. I'm in California for the film and television industry which I need to get a job and earn a living since that's the actual purpose behind going to college, and because California is the best place on the planet overall, but I would have saved my parents a lot of money by staying in France. Public education shouldn't be this expensive; it's public, the whole point is that in-state residents shouldn't have to pay or not much for it. Then private universities add an astonishingly high, unjustifiable amount of money on top of that. Last edited by Yanikun; 09-24-2011 at 06:13 AM. |

I went to a college prep high school so naturally my advisers and parents just assumed that I wanted to continue my education (I really don't - hard work isn't my thing). I had no idea what else I could possibly instead of going to college do so I just went with it. But I'm glad I did. I think I met the girl of my dreams (just one last thing I need to know about her), and I'm closer to finding my way to a financially carefree life. |
