| Some of the major additions I have heard in rumors is faster boot-up times (if you have ever seen videos comparing 2 computers, 1 on windows, 1 on mac with about the same specs, Mac is much faster it seems like. Even when booted of the same computer Mac is faster at booting up), a Window appstore, more cloud integration, and support for ARM chips. The last one seems weird to me. Are they wanting to put it on phones? tablets? I mean ARM chips are used in mobile devices a lot, so I guess it could be logical for them to put it on a tablet, especially if there is a Windows Appstore. I also wouldn't doubt a Windows appstore since Apple has made the Mac appstore available on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. What are your thoughts? |

I would like less retarded security. I know it can be toggled, but there is always something that you can't turn off that bugs you every time you try to install something. I don't want to log out and log in as an admin. >.< I miss XP. |

Not interested in windows 8. There is no point. Unless a new DX standard is going to be set which needs massive changes in library's. other then that no ty. I dunno why you think that apple is any threat towards microsoft if it comes on OS. Apple can release whatever and whenever they want. It still stays a inferior solution as its getting far lesser support. Mac has only use for apple products, and besides some specific markets its not appealing towards the mass audience or company's to start with. Nobody cares if there boot up is going to be 5 seconds longer really. If you wanna boot up fast. throw in a SSD disk. windows 7 got only this fast released because vista was a horrible solution for company's. Lots of company's where forced to downgrade back towards there older solution or shift towards linux. Besides that, company's are not going to support fast releases of windows. Unless it has actually massive list of major improvements. As it cost a hell lot of time and cash for company's to infest in it. And when they know for 100% certain its not going to backfire on them with bugs and issue's. Besides that a new windows is needed to be tested for years in order to provide stability for company's. Unlike apple that can simple push out a new OS, as only "select markets / persons use it". Part of the reason why there OS never got big in the market was because of this. Company's dont work like iphones, where every year a new OS can be released. People need to get workshops on how to work with OS'es etc. Its a hell for a company to go through. And the main business of microsoft = company's. Apple can have success with there iphones/ipads whatever els. But OS level microsoft isn't going to be beaten. If it gets beaten its by linux. I'm satisfied with windows 7. Im thinking that it might stick around until an upgrade is absolutely necessary, just like how windows XP is still widely used today especially in the business world.

@gatygun I wasn't saying apple was much of a threat. They aren't, windows has 80 something percent marketshare. I was just saying this is kind of quick for a new windows and compared it to Apple and their Mac OSX which usually gets a new OS much faster. I never said apple was a big threat. Apple is growing in marketshare, but it would still take a while to ever come close to catching up. There is also google chrome OS now as well, but again it won't take off and beat windowe. I doubt Mac will ever catch up. Last edited by raney150; 04-13-2011 at 08:29 PM. |

Until I get a new computer (it will be awhile from now, I really like the one I currently have) then I'll be happy with my Windows XP. Hope Windows 8 does well against Mac.

I'll just wait until a month or two to see the various reviews given out to see if W8 is even worth upgrading to. No point if all W8 is just more fancier graphics that does the same thing.

It can be very, very hard getting windows XP to run on modern chipsets. If you where to get a new computer and want to use XP then you would need to get windows 7 ultimate edition, which lets you run a windows xp shell. Ive had to start using windows 7 on our new computers in the office as I couldn't get XP working on them. But now we are using them I have to say that I much prefer 7 to XP and all the staff still on XP are now begging me to get windows 7 machines for them. |

I've got Mac OS X and windows, when migrating to Mac I found Mac OS X is a locked down OS, you can't acess drivers and other hardware settings through MAC OS, which is what I primarily want in an OS. Unless I've clearly missed something Everyone told me Mac is better but for them it is, they don't do complicated things. Mac OS X is a family friendly OS... unless you want to edit videos with the best professional software out there and other professional software. And my friends were like Mac OS is hard to hack and pirate, well from what I've done, I can create a new admin account without entering a password, and do a clean install, with my OS X disc. Windows is getting better and better, 7 is better than XP, and 8 might just be a little pit stop until the next proper major OS change.
