I died.

They say you can't die in a dream, that if you die in a dream you immediately snap out of it waking up. Some go so far as to say if you die in a dream and don't wake up you die for realsies. That's all urban legend of course, do even a cursory bit of research and you'll find out none of that is true. I can personally attest to dying in dreams and not waking up. I remember the first time it happened.

This was years ago, but I still remember it vividly, though at this point I'm beginning to wonder if I'm remembering the dream or my own retellings, in either case I talked about this dream often enough since it happened.

In the dream the world was ending. World War III had begun, the missiles were flying and everything was screwed. I couldn't tell you the cause, in the ways of dream logic I just knew it to be true. I was in the basement of my childhood home, not hiding from the oncoming war, but rather playing poker with my friends waiting until the end. It seemed like the thing to do, there was no time to find our families, nothing we could to do stop it... so we played cards.

The phone rang, it was my friend Joe, he was crying and bawling about the end of the world. I tried to calm him down, but couldn't, so eventually I agreed to go pick him up (he always needed a ride) for the end of the world card game.

I walked out into my childhood front yard, walking to the street to get to my truck when there was a flash in the west. I looked to see the mushroom cloud rising and was able to note there was a blastwave flying at me a moment before it struck. I was tossed across the lawn and finally landed against something. I don't know what because I was blinded.

Now I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Fat Man and Little Boy but in that movie one of the scientists working on the Manhattan Project is exposed to a fatal dose of radiation and dies a horrible death of radiation poisoning. In the hospital he looks horrendous. My subconscious dug into that memory hard as I started to feel the effects go into overdrive on my broken body. I couldn't see anything, was blind mind you, and I didn't switch to some out of body third person view. Still I felt myself retch and the taste of blood in my mouth as I puked up hunks of what I imagined was internal organs. There was tremendous pain and I retched until my throat swoll shut, and I began to choke.

Through all this I wasn't scared. Through the pain and the agony I remember the thought "I am going to die. There is nothing I can do about it, I am going to die. Soon the pain will end because I am going to be dead. At least I'll get to see what happens next." No terror, just certainty.

Soon enough, the pain stopped. I felt nothing, I tried to move but there was nothing to move. "I guess that's it then. I'm dead." There was only blackness, a void. Nothing. I still was however. I could think, I was aware, I was conscious. "Hello?" I thought, "Anyone there?" No response came.

"Well it is the end of the world, six billion people dying... things must be backed up. I mean there has to be something right? I'm dead and still aware, that can't be right. If there was no after life I would just cease to exist, but I still exist."

So I waited. Nothing happened. After awhile I started to pray. I wont say what I prayed, a bit personal. But nothing happened. My thoughts started to call out to God and all appropriate figures of my faith. Nothing happened. My thoughts cried out for dead relatives to help me. Nothing happened. My thoughts cried out for my mommy. Nothing happened.

I started to panic then. After what seemed like a long time in this dream void I started to cry out my thoughts to appropriate religious figures of every faith I could think of.

Nothing happened.

I was alone, in the void. Just thoughts, awareness, and nothing.

Time wore on and nothing happened. My thoughts cried out for something, anything to happen. This couldn't be right, simple nonexistence would be better than to be aware alone in a void for eternity.

Nothing happened.

So yeah my thoughts may have started to scream out to every devil, demon, or evil thing from every religion, myth, and fiction I could think of begging for something, anything to happen, just not leave me alone in that void.

Nothing happened.

I panicked, screamed, begged, cried.

Nothing.

Finally I woke up sitting bolt upright in my bed the way I thought only happened in movies. I was covered in sweat and shaking. It took me a few minutes to calm down, sitting on the edge of my bed, shaking and trying to control my breathing, but I was fine.

It was after all, only a dream.

I have had a lot of strange dreams but the most recent one that I remember was one about a zombie apocalypse... but there was a twist.

Instead of eating everyone's brains, the zombies were all hired by corporations since they would work for free. This led to a lot of people becoming unemployed and it ended up starting a worldwide economic depression.

I have lots of weird dreams.

The most recent one was just a very strange one where I went from the current time to 10 years in the future. It was like a time-skip in a story, but it was very strange. I just remember it centering around my grandparents. o_o

There was also this dream I had a few years ago where I was pregnant and going to the hospital to give birth to that baby. The strange part about it was that the boyfriend/husband (whatever, I don't know...) wasn't anybody real and didn't even resemble anybody real. He was made up completely for the dream.

That was just too weird. lol

I have tons more, but those two stick out to me right now. Many of the others were just flat out disturbing. =(

A vampire ripped my heart out.

Well this attractive girl and I was just running from the vampire in a old dirty hallway with tons of debris.(must be an old haunted house or something.) Well we was running for a good ten minutes dodging the obstacles in our path, then I tripped on a piece of wood. I fell face flat to the ground!, The girl offered help I denied her help and told her to go on ahead. Seconds later, the vampire jumped on my stomach to then claw it's way into my throat going down into my chest ripping my heart clean out!

It was creepy I saw everything from a third person view.

What is weird is that most dreams are from 3RD person view. Most of my dreams are first person, but let me say...

First person is creepy.

I normally have dreams in first person view, I rarely have them in third person.

Wow, that must have been really scary!

I made a dream about being dead too once, but it wasn't as realistic and scary as yours. I was very young (maybe 7 or 8) and I don't remember it so well. All I remember is being in some kind of field and a guy coming up to me and stabbing me with a sword.
I fell on my knees and then it was all black. I knew I was dead, but I didn't wake up right away. There was just nothing. I was able to think but not to move. It didn't last so long though and I woke up eventually.
