| Microsoft's new Xbox 360 disc format, support for which is due to be included in a dashboard update due for release tomorrow, is incompatible with "a very small number" according to the company. The issue was flagged up following a recent beta test of the discs in the US. However, machines found to be incompatible with the new format will be replaced by Microsoft at no cost to the owner. The company plans to proactively contact owners of problematic hardware to offer them their replacement machine. What the heck???? 360's cant even play 360 games??? |

i just think it's bizarre that this would even occur. SURELY they tested it out on every version of their console in-house before launching it, so they must have known that this would occur. what's crazy to me is that they would consider it acceptable and just let it go through and simply say "yeah, we'll eat the cost of shipping and providing a console for exchange". why wouldn't they continue to work on it until it actually was compatible with all models? maybe they didn't want to take the time to do that? or maybe they weighed the cost of further development against the potential risk/cost of this replacement program? i dunno, these big companies make some weird decisions sometimes.

You're forgetting the part that Microsoft is going to replace your non working 360 with a 250GB Stealthbox, the same time they announced this. So it's actually a good thing.

Its probably a factor that the disc they provide has more crammed stuff in it. Which requires a good solid reader, as it will need to read the discs precise. Older versions could have issues with it, through being older and a lesser precise laser. ( which happens over time ). Seen this a ton of times on consoles / dvd readers. basically everything that didn't had a burn function. I dont think it has anything to do with further development. If you got a good solid device there wont be a problem. if your device is a tad older and has already a bit of reading issue's but you simple didn't noticed it yet. that will show with those discs. And they will replace it for free. Good solid upgrade if you ask me. Dont see the problem. |

On that note, this is a little odd, but if it's the older Xbox 360 models, it would make sense. Remember when it came out that Halo Reach couldn't play on some 360's? I'm sure it's the same basic concept. Either way, I guess this disc update is cool. I think I read it has around an extra 1GB+ of storage space or something. Not a whole lot, but they failed hardcore when they went HDDVD instead of blu-ray, so whatever they can do to help alleviate their failure, more power to em. Maybe L.A. Noire can only be on 2 discs in the near future! |

Yes I did mention it. Big deal - what - we as gamers cannot even have closed systems anymore? That is the whole point of console gaming and transferring save data and etc is a pain. The real quetion is - why dont 360 user just buy and build gaming pcs? Whats the difference?????? |

| Microsoft Says Xbox 360 Disc Read Problems Caused by Old Update - Kotaku It's been debunked as it was an older update that caused the problems, not the new one thats coming about. |

I don't care for the Xbox but I don't see why this is an issue.
