I guess, but I am one of these people that has to get it perfect first time, so if I failed to get those little sparkles I would go insane. :P

Yes.

I am now on Special World 2. Not once did a golden tanooki tail appear and I am pretty sure I didn't die 5+ times on any level in world 8. Currently I have two silver stars and they have little sparkles around them. Does this mean I have done it?


EDIT: If I go back and play with Luigi and fail on W1-1 after having fallen off 4 times does that mean my sparkles will disappear?

Yeah. I replayed W1-8 without seeing the helper block and got the sparkles, so yes.

I read somewhere that once you have the sparkles you can't lose them. I think the game figures if you made it through the level on your own before, you don't need help now.

I am now at Special World 7 playing levels for the second time as Luigi, I have 4 shining stars and 309 coins, the rest of which I presume I have to get from those pink and white boxes.

At what point do I unlock the final level?

Wow, I'm very sad now. I thought I HAD the shiny stars, but the stars on my game are just gold colored. There is no sparkle animation or anything. I died more than five times on Bowser in the final castle, but I never got a help box, or P-Wing, or any other help. :/ Sooo, if there is no sparkles, I'm guessing that I don't have the shiny stars? ( I just beat everything and I was working on doing all levels as Luigi to unlock the "final" level and have a 100% game file.

I don't have shiny stars, do I? I tried looking online for a pic of this, but couldn't even find a video.

You MUST be really sad.. four sad faces lol.. No sparkles=no shiny stars.. if you really want them, you gotta restart a whole new file, just like how i did.. but it was sti;l fun running through the levels

Shiny stars have white sparkles - it sucks that you didn't get them! What I did was copy my original file once in a while so if I ever did die more than five times on a level (which I didn't anyway until the special worlds) I could go to my back-up file, copy it and continue from before that level without the hiccup.

Yep. Let me tell you though, running through W1-8 the second time, in order to get the sparkles, goes a lot faster and easier than the first time. Still, place primary importance on finishing the level first, then go back to get the star coins. You'll need to go through them all again with Luigi later on anyway.

I just started a brand new game this morning, and am almost to world 6, or maybe I'm even there. I can't remember and I'm too lazy to check. :b it is really fairly smooth. I just wished my original file would be 100 percented, because it was my starting file and has my true number of deaths and Star Coins etc. I did have extras because I streetpassed before with the game. I guess this time I will get just the regular coins. Oh well. :b Maybe I'll streetpass again!

It is fun going through it again I guess. It just upsets me I was already doing it again as Luigi. :b oh well. I guess this second file will be my completed file!
