Default Power save mode...

I've got a bit of a dumb question on power save mode...

What is it exactly? What does it change in the way the 3DS works? If nothing on the display changes how does it save power?

Thanks...

It works in the background and likely decreases some of the smoothness in games, but at the same time, lowers the amount of "juice" it's sucking up.

^Nah, it just reduces the color the screen produces, no smoothness decreased, just not as brilliant really.

So that's all it does? Reduce color?

How much power can it actually save?

No. It works like this: if the room is dark enough it will automatically darken the backlight, and vice versa.
