Make sure you are using lite controls, it's the only way to win.

The combo system in SSFIV3DE seems a lot more complex on the surface than it is in practice. Basically, combos are constructed with cancels and links. These are the building blocks of every combo in the game and every combo that exists in any fighting game consists of some combination of cancels and links. A basic understanding of what a cancel is and what a link is and how they are different will greatly help you learn how to play SSFIV3DE. ((Not sure where to put this in this post -- xx is used to note cancels and > is used to note links))

You can probably figure out from its name what a cancel is; a cancel interrupts a move to start up another. A lot of the time the cancels that you'll see are normal moves (LP, MK, etc) cancelling into other normal moves or into special moves. Most characters can also Super cancel certain specials and normals. When practicing cancels, you want to try executing the moves as quickly as possible. Everything does have a specific timing to it, but it's fairly forgiving compared to links and other fighting games.

Links take more practice and a bit more explanation. It's a little complicated, but it is exactly the same for every fighting game ever made. So any move that hits your opponent causes a certain number of hitstun frames - it is a short period of time during which your opponent cannot block and is stuck in the "I am being hit!" animation. During hit-stun, you'll have time to hit your opponent with other moves as long as the startup animation of your next move is shorter than the hitstun period of the move that has hit your opponent. Think of Ryu's fireball: when you input the motion, the fireball doesn't immediately come out. He has a brief start up animation where he rolls his hands forward. Links are very character specific - if you need to learn what links are available for your character, the SRK character forums are a good place to look. A useful link for Guile is down-forward HK > Flash Kick.

If you have any questions I am happy to help. Good luck!

Guile does not have many combo, and some of them are hard to do. As a Guile player, you will need to master all his normal moves, which are his strength. Especially long range poke such as cr.mk, st.hp, forward hp, his anti air cr.hp, his overhead forward mp, his target combo cr mk => forward mp.

His sonic boom is infamous because ppl use it to spam. To be honest, light sonic boom is the most useful one. Use it, but it u abuse it, life will get bad when your opponent come close to you and knock you down. His flash kick has very long recovery, so use it in a combo.

Guile's combo
cr.mp => flash kick

cr lp => cr lp => st lp => st hp.

Jump in hk => cr mp => flash kick (or sonic boom if blocked),

cr lk => cr lp => cr mp => flash kick (hard)

jump hk => down forward hk => flash kick

jump hk => st hp = > sonic boom
