Errr... I'm so pissed off right now... My dog just chewed up my nintendogs and cats game... Hopefully I can just trade in all my crappy DS games that I don't play any more for some store credit, or buy one on eBay... Why couldn't he have chewed a crappy game? Maybe he was jealous of me playing with my virtual dog instead of him... I'll have to start all over when I get a new one... -_-

1,001th overall post, to be exact.

Also, not sure if anyone's posted this, but a demo of the game will be coming to the eShop this week.

I own a tough Boxer named Buster, A gray cat (I like to pretend it's a russian blue) called Happycat (he loves cheezburgers) and a Shiba named Sakura, she's the one who makes all the money. Also, my wife's chihuaha can be seen there, but normally she stays in the hotel with my ugly Robopup.

Is that the Mario house? Looks awesome. :O

Yes, the Mario house is insanely awesome, but it takes away some of the game's realism to the point the pets themselves feel fake. After a few weeks I got back to the free japanese home.

Same thing with RoboPup. It lives in the hotel now.

My advice - practice in the parks, not the house.
Right. The game tells you to do disc practice in the parks too. Throwing discs in the house is just for goofing around.

I didn't have the trouble you are having, this sitting and chewing.
I tried not to give the dog a chance to do this as, for as soon as he caught the disc I was tapping the screen to get him to come back to me.

You can also use your voice to call, but I found tapping the screen the most effective (gently, to see those small light red circles appear around your stylus).
Now this, I had problems with. It was a long time before he would return a disc without prompting. I didn't realize about tapping the screen at first so I was calling his name, it wasn't very effective. Once I found out about tapping he paid attention to that better. Still took a while to break him of plopping down on the ground and chewing the disc, though.

You could try with another dog - I personally don't think the breed makes much difference, not sure about the personality, I think it may play a small part.

I have read where players are facing long term difficulties like this, that they do better with a new dog.
If nothing else works, then trying a new dog might be worth a try.
From what people have said, different dogs (breed? personality? who knows) take to some things quickly and other things slowly. I suppose that sort of thing might be intentional by the programmers. At the same time I would have to think that all dogs are trainable in all areas of the game eventually.

Thanks for the help. It was actually very useful. I tend to frisbee in the house a lot, so I won't do this anymore. I'll pay attention to the signs on walks and go to the parks more. I didn't think of this.

I don't have enough money for a second dog so I'll just have to stick with it.

Thanks Katysu, I never thought of patting the pups head. I always just grabbed the frisbee, but this sometimes makes him growl.

But I took your advice regarding giving treats on walks to avoid puddles and such and it totally worked! So thanks again.

Ray Kramer: Regarding other breeds/dogs being better at frisbee than others; in my experience, when on walks and other Mii's have invited me to parks etc. I have played frisbee and the other dogs (not all, but most) have caught the frisbee and returned it straightaway with a lot more gusto and energy than my dog. So thats why I mentioned it.

I'm gonna start playing a bit more frequently from now on. I mentioned its been 2 months, thats since I got the game, I haven't played it consistently for 2 months, so my situations not as bad as you think. I was concentrating on MK7, but now I have more time to work things out with Nintendogs.

congrats BinkyBella!
summary:
short practice sessions in both parks.

Before you begin gain the attention of the dog: by tapping the screen while the disc/boomerang is in your hand maybe also calling into the mic so that the dog comes up to you and is ready for you to throw.

Once disc caught, (he should pick up even if he misses and its lying on the ground), tap screen to get him to come back to you.
Always pat the head till you see sparkles & throw again.
No need for long sessions, 5 mins or less.

In competitions, you only need to pat the dog's head the first few times, you should then take the disc without patting.

I always pat the dog's head in the park.

Some players aim for auto fetch - ie the dog will return without the screen being tapped.
My dogs will sometimes, othertimes I'm not so sure they would
- I just keep tapping the screen, even though the dog is already returning - both in the parks & competitions.

As your dog gets faster, the other dogs you meet in the park will look very slow.
The only exception seems to be Miriam ( ? ) with Basti - he is faster, but still out runable most of the time.

To gain speed, use the seaside park as much as the mountain one.
The boomerang is useful if you have it, for gaining speed & back flips, but it is not essential.

I seem to recall the game explicitly explaining both of these things. I could be wrong, or maybe you just weren't paying attention to the game messages. Maybe it was in the dead tree manual instead.

Heh. Opposite for me, most of the dogs I meet up with don't return the disc at all. I just wait for them to lose interest in it and let it go, then my dog swoops in to grab it and bring it back.
