It's a side quest of sorts. You're supposed to find and shoot all of them.

Yes, the original version had frogs instead of Yoshi. Never found them all, myself, but if you can, it nets you a pretty cool reward.

Also picked up the game today, and I'm loving it! If there's a difference between it and the demo, I haven't really noticed. The frame rate during cut-scenes might be better, but even if it isn't, it's not off putting in the least. I'm really digging all the new features. Third person shooting, crouch walking and the new CQC controls are all great additions/improvements to the original game. Photo camo is really cool too. I all ready have a camo pattern that has a 100% rating when lying down. I actually made it from a screenshot of the game itself. lol

I'm not too far in, but it all ready feels like the definitive version of MGS3 to me. On top of all the other stellar features, it has some of the best 3D I've seen on the system, and I can play it anywhere I please. It's like a wish fulfilled. In all seriousness, I had hoped for a port of MGS3 on the DS back in 2004, but I knew it would never happen. It really feels kind of surreal playing it right now as it is... It's crazy!

I love reading passionate reviews. I'm glad to hear that at least the graphics are better than the infamous "red brick" screenshots we saw earlier. The demo's graphics weren't good (when compared to the system's current benchmark, Revelaitons), but not really bad either. At least good enough to make the game immersive.

Good dev efforts should be rewarded and having never played a Metal Gear game this sounds like a decent opportunity to try one.

Oh yeah, the game's improved in several areas.
I remember Nintendo World Report showing a comparison between the versions, and you had Naomi looking pretty ugly since she wasn't textured/mapped right.
Now she looks just like the PS2 one.
A Nintendo Conference 2011 trailer ended with Naked Snake CQCing Ocelot and his unit. The final build runs at the same framerate, but looks much, much better.

The colors are much closer to the original PS2 game then the screens would have you believe.

So what's up with having to shoot Yoshis? Why would I want to shoot cute cuddly friendly creatures like that?

Yoshis are unfortunately already used to being treated rather harshly.

I played it for awhile last night.

I dont know. It seems pretty unplayable to me. I cant tell what is going on. The controls are very tough. I dont like using the buttons for the camera view. Maybe Ill get used to it.
The story/cutscenes/graphics are great... The gameplay seems awful to me

I think there should be a section for Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D. It really should have one.
